To be fair, neither of their opinions is wrong. Arteta does favor players who can play in multiple positions and contribute goals from all over the pitch. It’s also true that we could use an alternative number 9 for games when the midfield or wings are not delivering. Personally, I don’t mind if we don’t get an out-and-out striker. What matters to me is adding depth, whether through a goal-scoring winger on the left or right, a goal-scoring midfielder to rotate with Ødegaard, or someone who can create from deep like Ilkay Gündoğan. The real issue is the lack of depth and options in those forward positions rather than needing an "out-and-out striker." After all, Liverpool’s top goal scorer isn’t an out-and-out striker, and Manchester City won most of their trophies without one, scoring even more goals than they do now.

Julian's general point is right, if you get goals then it doesn't matter if it comes from the 9 or the wingers or the CBs or the goalie for that matter. However what he doesn't take into account is that for those sorts of teams to win titles, where the goals are spread out throughout the team, they have to be PERFECT for an entire season, because the moment one cog stops working the whole machine breaks down. And we're not perfect. Odegaard has blanks sometimes. Hell, even Saka has blanks sometimes. So even if we're a 'spread the goals out' team we STILL need a clinical bagsman striker even if he's just an option for when the team cohesiveness breaks down.

The invincibles shared the goals. But there main source of goals was Thierry Henry. There's a big difference between what TH14 scored to what Bergkamp would score. If you don't have a predominantly high scoring player it's ineffective vision to think you're gonna share goals around. Let's address the points tally of the invincibles compared with 2023. The invincibles moved up to the level of their opposition in order to win silverware. If the competition went up they may of went up another gear. In 2023 Arsenal may have got similar points but that Arsenal team didn't have the championship quality to score these shared goals when the chips were down, under pressure, when it mattered. They lost the league against average teams. That was quality respect to Turkish dealing with that numpty.

Just to point out Arsenal scored 5 goals less than Man City last two seasons in the premier league. Arsenal dont have a striker and Man city have Haaland getting 40+ goals a season. Does arsenal need a striker? Or is it more beneficial for them to share the goals around the team. Liverpool won the league with Firmino playing as a false nine with salah and mane on the wings and accumulated almost 100 points. Same with Man city they accumulated more points without a striker and if anything were a better team before Haaland. When pep took over Man city sergio Aguero who is one of the premier Leagues greatest strikers was on the bench the majority of the time. Please Julian, we know we can score goals, i think what Turkish meant and many fans like me saying is that, we need a player who can be the difference maker, as of now we play 18, 6 D and 2 L, we know we can score goals against lesser teams, but we need a proven goalscorer who can be the difference that turn draw into a win and a lost into a draw, when it really matters we cant rely on havertz or jesus, they can score in the games that dont really mean anything, when it is easy etc, we need player who can get us over the line!

Arsenal is scoring more goals than the club ever has in its 100+ year history. Clearly the problem isn't just 'a striker' - we need to make sure the player we bring in does not take away from our historic goal scoring abilities,. It feels like we need a Benzema / RVP type player who can link up the team as well - how many of those players even exist today?

Theres more nuance in these conversations than they let it be because of the emotions. Julian in general is correct, it doesnt matter where the goals come from, overall goals wasnt the problem. I do want a way more investment in attack. That being said, creating a lot of chances and not winning a game will always happen no matter if you have one or not. There's also no guarantees you create the same level of chances with a different striker in the role, it depebds on the whole dynamic
