That’s a bit problematic because he explores many alternative lines and he replays everything using his mouse (he would have to update the clock status manually each move) This is why whenever relevant, he just mentions the time the players have left especially when they run out of it. The letter on the robot indicates the time control of the game (“C”=classical etc)

Watching "The West Wing" episode 14 season 3, titled "Hartsfield's Landing". Chess features in the episode. I hate seeing chess on TV and film because it is almost always wrong. They start a game, white makes one move and Martin Sheen (playing the President) says: ah the Evans Gambit! Yeah okay.

@@TheTalaliad how exactly?
@TheTalaliad2 жыл бұрын
@@benoplustee During the episode none of them want to play chess cause they don't know how, he knows this and makes them play anyway. And than he when they make a move he says they are playing a specific opening, the purpose is two-fold, because he himself doesn't really know all those opening very well but saying the names makes them think he does so they all assume they'll get crushed. And by pretending that they know the opening themselves he is annoying them further because they all repeatedly tell him they don't play chess. By doing this he greatly annoys them, providing humor for both himself and the audience.

Perhaps this is a strange question, but what exactly did Dubov mean by "16 negative men?" Does he mean as in people who are being negative? Is it some reference to the pawns? Or is this some chess metaphor I don't understand? I'm just curious, it's a very interesting thing to say. I think the second half is true though. Perhaps being an astronaut is easier than being an extremely high-level GM.

I had a player claim insufficient winning chances vs me when I had a R and B vs his rook, and the TD (a friend of his) agreed. It was the final round, and the draw allowed me to tie him. However, the claim was bogus, which I did not know at the time, so I should have won the tourney. At least I got half the prize money, and it wasn't much of a tourney anyway, but he's the same guy I had beaten in the final round of the Montana state championship in 2004, and that was the only other game I ever played against him after that title game. I felt that after the Black queen gobbled up the free pawn on H2, it needed to return immediately to the other side of the board, to C7 or even B8. It eventually returned to C7, but by the time it did the attempted assault on the white king was no longer possible. I felt there was hope for ramming those pawns down the throat of white's king if (and only if) both the rook and queen were right behind them. Instead, the white queen hung around on H2 hoping to get a chance to take the pawn on G2. That pawn meant nothing strategically, and black was just being greedy for a pawn it didn't need. What do you folks think?

When you go over the scenarios over what could happen is this something they consider while they're playing? Or like how many future moves do you think they consider before making their move? forgive me im low elo.
@vektor39582 жыл бұрын
It depends on the time format. In Classical chess players have time to consider many lines sometimes many moves deep. You can figure out which time format they playing by looking under Agadmator to see the letter on the robot's head. C stands for classical - a lot of time, R - rapid - is shorter , B - blitz - even more short
@pedrorengel96032 жыл бұрын
They are not only looking at linear continuations, but structures. What covers what, threats, hidden threats, short medium and long term objectives, endgame structure, defence and offence a la football, all these things and more they have to look at. What Agad shows is is a tiny glimpse into some things that are relevant to the position, like a visual representation of an atom to explain what nuclear phisicists do.
