this guy flawlessly incapsulated the emotional state of a lonely drive home after a break up, missed connection, or bad night with a girl in whatever way. I always still feel it even at 36 yrs old.

Hearing this today, has feelings and memories rushing back, like a tsunami. It’s so visceral. I was 18 when Swiss Army Romance was released. I took a trade job, over going off to college, like my gf and all my friends did. I remember driving alone damn near every weekend, 8 hrs round trip to see them. That lasted almost 2 years, along with driving to dozens of shows, to see Chris perform. I shamelessly listened to this song on repeat sometimes 10x, during long drives home at night. It’s kind of bizarre, seeing live shows on YT, in what looks to be arenas. The shows I relate to, were at places like St. Andrew’s church, in PG County, MD ( College Park ), where there couldn’t have been more than maybe 200 people? Such great memories!

This makes me remember a friend I learned to play guitar with. We were newbies trying to get the aggressive strumming down from the original recording, and I got to "Please send me anything but signals that are mixed!" before I heard a loud TWANG! and broke one of my first strings ever, haha. I never did learn the rest of this song after that, but I did come back for Standard Lines!

Standard lines was my white whale as a teenager. I spent weeks listening and trying to learn it. I can still play it like 15 years later lol. It's a great go to, when someone asks you to play something, randomly, in front of people, lol.

@@TheBlackSpastic Haha, same here friend! Me and a friend spent literal weeks on that one song just trying to learn the intro. By the end of it we got it all down but couldn’t do the octaves that are on some of the notes, so it sounded a little thin, but it was good enough for us! I can still play it too, never forgetting that one :)

This song is what taught me alternate tunings on guitar. There's a whole world of beautiful music to be made on guitar with these open tunings. This album fired off my love for music. It's still my my rotation. I've been playing and writing acoustic songs for 20 years now because of it.

We moved to the US from the Philippines in my teens, and culture shock would be an understatement for what I experienced. This album was one of my favorites then and helped me get thru tough times. I even learned some of the songs and played them at school ❤ thanks for the memories!!

Easiest dashboard song to play, but you need to tune your guitar to every string but the a string to d flat a string to a flat , can find the tabs for it pretty easy on ultimate guitar just look for one with the correct tuning

Chris not that you need it but I recommend the herb Kudzu to every singer. It is the only herb I have ever heard to have the effect of improving/fortifying one's singing voice. It also helps cure alcoholism but hopefully that is not something you need help with. < 3 KUDZU root. It is quite a popular herbal extract available on the market.
