I just watched this back to back with another video of Laura performing this song before she was out, and idk if this is just me, but the entire feel of the song is so different. This version is so triumphant and celebratory, while the other was almost like she was mourning something she probably thought she would never have, she even seemed to be holding back tears by the second verse in the first version. Just seeing her being able to sing that verse with a smile makes me so happy.

For anyone who thinks this band commercialised and sold out, I'm sorry but being a man on one album and a woman on the next - what is more punk rock than that? Against me is now the most punk rock band that has ever ever existed. Just to clear one thing up however, it's generally considered that a trans person has always been the gender they identify as, so she has always been a woman, and is still a woman since 2012, only she has now been public about said identity, and began transitioning.

People need to understand that Laura is going through a huge transition in her life, and she is finally happy to say to the world, 'yup, I was born with the wrong gender, and this is now how I want to live my life, like it or not' Punk rock IS about ACCEPTING everyone and anyone. Laura's physical characteristics don't mean anything; what really matters is how she thinks of herself. If she wants to live her life as a woman despite being born with male genitalia then there is no reason she shouldn't. If you can't accept her for who she is psychologically and who she wants to be then that's fine, because Laura has obviously been a great inspiration to many other people. Telling the world about her gender dysphoria shows true bravery, and it's wonderful that she was able to.

hrt (hormone replacement therapy) which trans women take cannot change the voice, once you've been through "male" puberty that's it, it's deep unless you do voice training lessons and work hard to make it higher. you can also get surgeries to shave the adam's apple. but i think Laura said she didn't want to do that.
