A Niðstång is a wooden pole ornated with a dead animal's head used in pagan icelandic culture to curse enemies. On this song the Niðstång was put on a lakeshore in order to curse those who come to desecrate the local woods, but the Niðstång curse is so strong that it poisons the lake and ends up killing not only the humans, but also all the nearby animals who drink water from the lake. The lyrics are told from the point of view of the souls from those whose bodies lie below the lake's black water, and later we can also hear the Niðstång itself bragging about its power and how not even the gods can stop the curse.
If you find something wrong with the lyrics, please report on the comments. Also, I'm running a survey about which bands I should do next. You can find it on the "Community" tab on my channel. Check it out and vote for your favorites!
