I was lucky enough to see them live a couple of times before they disbanded. I'm in my mid 60's and, at one of their shows, there was a woman older than me sitting beside me. I asked why she was here and she pointed at John Haughm, the lead vocalist and said "That's my son". Precious moment.

My interpretation of song is that it's about a man searching for god, and then realizing that god is everywhere in nature. It's basically a pantheistic message.

The Mantle is one of my favorite albums of all time. To me, this track is amazing, but it's just the beginning of an album of amazing compositions. They drew upon many influences from psychedelic and prog rock to doom metal, post-punk and neofolk. Their name is pronounced Aga-lock, by the way.

This is my favorite song of all time. I was blown away the first time I heard it, and it's one of the few songs that give me that same feeling of awe years later. The Mantle is one of my favorite albums of all time too. I think of Agalloch as a post-metal band (they might repeat a riff or motif for a few minutes, but then develop it by adding new guitar parts and melodies), but they have some folk elements and atmospheric black metal in there too.

For anyone who doesn't know, the band's name is pronounced with a "ck" sound at the end, like "Loch Ness." I didn't know until someone told me. Tell your neighbors. If there's one thing the world must know, it's how to pronounce Agalloch
@Breadcups
@Breadcups 2 жыл бұрын
Also have to say, the correct pronunciation of Loch isn't a ck like "lock", it's softer and rolls off the roof of the mouth rather than clicking. It's a distinction my Scottish pals have taught me when I got it wrong.

Absolutely love Agallochs stuff. This song being one of my favourites along with Black Lake Nidstång and Celestial Effigy. The bass in their songs is something I can appreciate as a bassist. When I play their songs as practice it’s very difficult to get bored of playing or to fall into autopilot as I often do. On top of that, their songs have beautiful melodies and great vocals.

What I like the most about these videos is that they point my attention to elements that I didn't necessarily notice before, or that I enjoyed as part of the composition and never focused with as an individual part. This makes me experience the songs in a totally different way, when I can notice the small guitar details and notes or focus with the bass guitar, the right/ left placement of some sounds etc... It upgrades the songs to a higher level when you're able to hear and enjoy all those details!

Woo! You will never 'only hear one thing now', each and every listen reveals another layer that was previously hidden. The panning stutter sounds like a killswitch on the guitar to me. The entire album is well worth a listen beginning to end.

You must do falling snow from this band sir. The pure emotional weight. I'm not the type of guy usually but damn near made me tear up when I first heard it. If you were to do anything, please. lol

Positively surprised to see this track on your channel. Ever tried Maudlin of the Well or Kayo Dot? Unique approach to music, pushing the art to its limits and boundaries, especially the latter iteration of the band. The Manifold Curiosity by Kayo Dot always blows my mind, I'm curious to see what would be your reaction listening to such a composition.

The Manifold Curiosity is a masterpiece from Choirs of the Eye. skipping over to later Kayo Dot, plenty of amazing tracks on Hubardo, Coffins on Io, Plastic House, Blasphemy and the latest singles from the upcoming album, particularly Void in Virgo.

Agalloch fan here since 5 years ago, this album was the first thing I heard from them, it blew my mind (despite having listened some abm before it). Indeed it's quite a complete creation, guitars, lyrics, vocals (I really couldn't identify the bass on this track). For some reason, each track plants a different new story both with instruments and lyrics from the previous, and that's what for me, makes it a complete album. Cheers, and keep it on! Amazing to see Don itself replying too!

We need anything from Enslaved and on a side note Black Crown Initiate would be great also.

The Mantle is EASILY one of my favorite albums of all times, and In The Shadow Of Our Pale Companion is an amazing intro into that album. As you already mentioned it is a great transition into the next song, and it really is. Truly my favorite bands I never had the chance to experience live, and hope you will give some more of their songs a chance!
