This is the strategy to beat it on harder difficulties, but there’s a lot of nuance to it. You have to keep your army towards the back because he’ll add in a praying mantis to hold up your reinforcements, so you need to be able to turn around to deal with it the moment the fight starts. Also he’ll squish your ants the moment you try to approach the undefended nest after winning the fight, so I take my cheapest ant brood into another pheromone marker and have them run around the other side until he stops squishing them, THEN send the army in.

when i did it i had about 3700 food for replenishing my ants and 150 ants in total. To deal with the rove beetles the ants that were replenished killed them.

You can upgrade the ants with the royal jelly like your attack speed, the amount of health you loose and ect. Just click on one of the ants DNA strain that you choose from! then it should show you an icon to add the royal jelly to!

Fun fact:a leafcutter ant soldier like the infamous Atta cephalotes soldier can go up wards to 3mm - 23mm and eciton burchillie majors (army ant majors) can go up to 3mm - 12mm and the biggest species of army ants can go up wards to 0.5 inch majors that is as a thumbtack!

If you click the ant type in the tech, you can use the jelly to upgrade the ants stats, its attack and defense ect, also when i did that mission i had a food reserve of 7k, and basically used it all to out last their food reserves

This is years ago but if I had watched then, I would mention that you had fought with only about 100 ants of the potential 150 you were given, essentially fighting at 60% of your potential fighting power, if you had all 150, perhaps medium would not of been so hard

You can upgrade further your ants by clicking on the portrait in the upgrade menu, you can upgrade range for mortar for exemple, or armor for the black ants :X
