This book blew me away. It was amazing. The ending was wow. Loved it

I love her standalone novels, too. Since you love Gothic novels, you might like "THE MYSTERIOUS MR. QUIN", which is also dark and feels... I don't quite know how to put it, but it feels like if you got ordinary people and put them through the emotional turmoils of a Gothic novel and watched them either crack or rise, narrated by an unrelated witness. It concerns an aging and possibly gay gentleman named who, through the late years of his lone and unsatisfying life, meets - or believes to meet - again and again a mysterious and somber man called Mr. Harley Quin, who seems to always appear at the scenes of grievious injustices and provokes the protagonist into taking a stance, while also leading him to find meaning in his life when he seemed to be losing it as he got older without children, love or a legacy. I liked it.

I'm a massive Christie fan; I read Murder on the Orient Express in summer 2017 and since then I've read almost all of her books. I have maybe 10 novels left then some of the short story collections. I really enjoyed Endless Night as it is something different and I wasn't expecting it to be so different when I picked it up. Some of my personal favourites that may or may not be included in those online lists are (all Poirot): The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, Cards on the Table, Cat Among the Pigeons, Peril at End House and Five Little Pigs. All 13 of Miss Marple's books are also really great, there aren't any duds among them.

Yay, so glad you loved this one too! I've read 17 Christie novels so far and this quickly became one of my favourites. I think And Then There Were None still tops my list, but given that's where I started with her work, I'll always have a soft spot for it.

So happy to hear someone else loves And Then There We’re None as much as I do. I burned through all of Christie’s mysteries in middle/high school (too early?) but never read this! Now it’s at the top of my TBR. Great review!

As someone whose read all but a handful of the novels and all her short stories and most of the plays - just three words: READ. CROOKED HOUSE. For me, I'd read the novels in publication order, you can see Christie's style develop, but CH is a later standalone ... remains my favorite, as well as was Christie's own favorite ... and well, just read it when you can? Over 40 years since I first read her, Christie remains my favorite author.

Hello, I'm a Japanese bookworm who enjoys your vids! This video made me elated since you read "Endless Night," one of my favorite books!! I am a huge fan of Agatha Christie's books and have read nearly all of them. My favorite is "Endless Night." Reading it again and over has convinced me that it works, and Agatha Christie's execution of it dazzles me. "Mike sincerely loved Ellie," I can say (after the ending), which makes this novel a true tragedy. I implore you to read "Absent in the Spring," another excellent Agatha Christie solo. "Towards Zero (standalone)" and "Five Little Pigs (Poirot)" are both recommended...!!!

I'm slowly working my way through all of Agatha Christie's books, the few I have read so far have all been really wonderful, I love the way they're books I can sit and read through in an evening. Loved your review (and loved Endless Night, too ;) Christie has really written some great mysteries! Since you said you wanted to start getting into Poirot mysteries and you liked Endless Night, I'd say Death on the Nile is a must-read Poirot mystery :D Oh, and the Murder of Roger Ackroyd of course - that was my very first Christie and I was simply blown away! It still holds up, even though it was released more than 90 years ago!

Roger Ackroyd is on every list as an absolute essential Christie book so I think I'll pick that one up next!
There is a short story that has a very similar twist and similar elements, so unfortunately I kinda guessed what the explanation was. I would have loved to be surprised, but I did really enjoy the book regardless! I think it is one of the rare occasions that Christie explores the world of the 99%, not only the top 1%.

Hello Willow, I hope the end of this year is being kind to you and yours. I’ve had a break from everything as l lost my beloved mum the last week of November. So l came back hoping for inspiration and now I’m looking forward to reading this book. My Grandmother and mum both adored Agatha Christie, so l was interested right from the start. Thank you for this!🖤
@WillowTalksBooks3 жыл бұрын
I'm so so sorry to hear that, and I love that you want to read more Christie because of your mother and grandmother. Christie's books are a wonderful balm as well; they're sweet and funny and light and almost calming. I just finished Crooked House and The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, both of which I can also heartily recommend!
@DeidreL93 жыл бұрын
@@WillowTalksBooks thank you so much🖤 lm going to look for those other books too! Christie is very comforting, definitely, and l think it’s also because she’s so ever present in our Western culture. There’s a continuity with her. I was thinking about the way a book ends…have you ever disliked the ending of a book so much you actually re-configured it in your mind? Or in pen, which I have, because I get obsessed😂 l read Anne Bishop’s The Black Jewels books, which were very different to my usual choices, and the story ended in such a completely unappealing way to me, l got out my journal and privately wrote my own ideas about the ending, and how I’d prefer it to have been. Which led me to dissect the writer’s thoughts more, and over time I began to appreciate the layers of her storytelling more than I did on first reading. I still don’t like the given ending, but l respect Bishop’s writing so much and can appreciate her vision now. One thing l love about someone like Kate Morton is that the ending usually has me gripped, but nothing has been as effective to me as the conclusion of The Shape of Darkness, which I read after watching your review. Thank heavens for books!🤗

I’ve read most of Christie’s books, this is one of the few I haven’t read yet. You’ve already read my favourite (And Then There We’re None). I also love a couple of Miss Marple stories - Murder at the Vicarage and A murder is Announced. For the Poirot books, Murder of Roger Ackroyd is deservedly a classic, the ending is just so clever. I really like Cards on the Table, but it does contain a spoiler for Murder on the Orient Express.

I honestly think I red most of Christie's books, with the exception of a couple which the main character didn't catch me at all, all Mary Westmaccot books I red to, a long time ago. Lately I listen to her audiobooks ( favourite reader: Hugh Fraser). After telling all that, I truly think "Endless night" is a underrated masterpiece, written by Agatha Christie. Didn't like the movie as much, but that's mainly because when you read, you're allowed to form the carracters in your head. The book I highly recommend.
