To anyone criticizing Spooky: It is a strange place to be mentally for you to care enough about e-sports to watch a stream, but then think getting mad at collusion is "too much". Spooky is a major reason why SF is where it is today as a highly streamed, respected e-sport, and he didn't accomplish that by not giving a fuck.

from a fan of spooky, i have to say he was 100% spot on. like many have said, splitting the pot is up to the players. its their money at the end of the day but just throw away games is unprofessional and it affects more than just the two players. it demoralizes and puts into question the legitimacy of the FGC. also it affects spooky and his sponsors. it also affects spookys fanbase.

Spooky keeping it real. Guys have to realize that this is a problem that cannot be tolerated in the FGC. Respect. See, if players were smart, they would play for real, then after they win, do what they want with the money. As for BSing on stream, it is entirely unprofessional and calls the integrity of the FGC into question.

Splitting the pot at final is something that happens a LOT but there is always a tacit agreement that you play your best game for the trophy/pride and the fans.The reason for spooky's blow up was not because they were going to split the money but cos they didn't respect the tourney/his stream/the fans enough to play their best game.

I understand the concept of colluding, although am not familiar with the competitive atmosphere of this game. What details (character picks, etc.) caused them to immediately suspect that this match was a collusion? Just curious.
@KomatoseMKDOA9 жыл бұрын
Neither player has ever used those characters in a tournament or competitively. Never even said they were going to give them a try (let's be serious here. Sanford using Balrog in a tournament? No...). They just went into the match giving 50% instead of 100% like they should have because they didn't give a fuck as long as they are going 50/50 which is really immature and trolly of them. That's not what the steam monsters want to see and that's not what the sponsors want. Sponsors want quality matches not some halfass trolly matches.
@d07a9 жыл бұрын
Fridaye1056 mon because the winner of the final gets paid the money. Why would you play your main character through a whole tournament and then when the actual money match is here pick a character you've never been seen playing before and are clearly shit with. You would want your best chance at winning no? pick your shit!

God damn it people, is it really that hard to act as a decent human being on the internet or does all the anonymity of it gives you privilege to act like ill-mannered animals? Joseph Jennings Collusion, in FGC terms is when two competitors make a mutual agreement to split pot earnings after a match (normally after Grand Finals) with one person conceding to another by either not choosing their main characters or by treating the whole match as a joke. (Intentionally dropping combos, constantly laming matches out or some other stupid shit) It is frowned upon because it takes away from the seriousness and competitiveness of the match and pisses off other people who put in actual effort to compete in tournaments.

PumpAction Shawdy So basically these top players make it to top 2 and then instead of playing the matches normally, with the winner take all, they basically split first and second place winnings between the two. That way both players get money evenly, with no sore losers. This sometimes leads to the top 2 players playing like it was a casual set, instead of giving their all. This was par for the course at NLBC, BUT this also happened at the previous major in Marvel. Locals are one thing, but with major tournaments, you have a lot of viewership from average joes like us AND sponsors who could potentially pull their money. Imagine if an NFL team basically threw a game with wacky plays at the Super Bowl. Nike would be pissed. On top of all that, it delegitimizes the tournament that Spooky's showcasing. Spooky looks like he's holding a fraudulent tournament, which could have serious reprucusions for him if he ever wanted to keep going with streaming.
@mxtra2210 жыл бұрын

The FGC, RTS, etc communities have tournaments. Sometimes big money is on the line. The fanbases of these competitive games have high expectations of top tier players. Replace FGC with MLB, NFL, NHL, whatever organization runs the sport you like to watch, then compare it with the World Series Final Four, or even a rivalry matchup. Do you get it now? It's not just a video game to this community. Baseball/Basketball/Football is just a game, no need to get so excited about it Kappa.

Incorrect. A weekly tournament is for whatever the organizer(s) of the tourny says it's for. If he says it's for working on secondary stuff, then that's what it's about. If he says it's for seeing who was the best that week, then that's what it's about.

Uhh no, Spooky is a big FGC streamer; as viewers we dont' want to see some some lame Grand Finals. They better pick their strongest characters and fight. It's a loss on viewers for the stream; which is less money and a waste of time for the sponsors. Collusion is not tolerated anywhere anymore. The Streamers have to take a stand against players. If you think this was an overreaction, you should check out : /watch?v=8Y_if5seR60&channel=Joshl92

RESPECT! if that was me I would of tossed there ass out. two questions come to me about this. How do you know when someone isn't is just trying to counter pick? So one person has to pick there main in order for it not to be collusion in a counterpick? The other question should you have to just register your character at the start of the tourny and by allowed to counterpick but tell the organize ur about to counterpick? the guy that made hdremix used the rule in tourny, forgot what it was called

Spooky, you're right.
@mnm12131410 жыл бұрын
good stuff to spooky. copy and paste from one of the comments below. "You obviously don't understand the situation. Its a video game, but its a real tournament scene with money, not to mention sponsors. Collusion can put into question the validity of the whole operation and make not only the people at FGC look bad, but also the sponsors. If people want to fuck around they can do it on their own time. He is acting like a professional by not letting jackasses ruin it for everyone." understand that when MONEY IS INVOLVED, it is not longer a game. sports is the best example. at the end of the day, NBA, NFL, MLB etc., IS NOT A GAME. money is involved and people make bets. if there's signs of cheating, it makes the sport questionable and people have the right to go berserk if they lose money
@AppleJack400011 жыл бұрын
IMO If both players knew they were in the right, they would have confronted spOOky more directly. Instead, they sort of just stood around in a circle and argued amongst themselves. The player's reactions to the unplugging pretty much confirms sp00ky's suspicions.

oh ok, but even in that case, like dota 2, tournaments have the "team ban system" you can remove selected heroes from the roster to pretty much rule out your opponents best heroes and what happens mostly is people suddenly pull out heroes that were considered unused and then turn around the whole meta game since no one has yet trained against heroes like that.
@TrueSephiros11 жыл бұрын
A weekly to me should be just as important because they are the lines that keep people to stay in tuned with the game because their aren't majors every week. Everything starts out small and you have to put the effort on all parts if you wish the community and the viewers to grow. If someone who has never seen a major up to this point watched and said "This is what the FG community is all about?!" then drop it then yeah, it does matter. Play it real, you can always split the pot later.

hi youtube user Alfrebaut, chrisG is known for playing morrigan. he's not known for playing yang. they both obviously changed their characters to impractical ones, and this makes a mockery of the tournament they're playing in. it's irrelevant whether people want to see sanford's sagat vs dieminion's guile for the millionth time. cu@preschool
@SlamThenJam11 жыл бұрын
It's not so much that they split the pot, it's that they don't take the grand finals seriously. It just makes those who put effort into organizing the tournament frustrated; they feel like their efforts aren't worth anything. The problem is that the players are ruining the spectacle of the grand finals. They can split the pot, just give everyone what they came to watch: a solid match between the two strongest players in the tournament.

I know it happens every week because Spooky mentioned that quite a number of times. This is not their couch. This is a tournament even if it's not a major. Not that that seems to matter to some people (especially ChrisG). People want to see good play and not two guys dicking around playing casuals on their couch. It's perfectly understandable to not want that on his stream because it affects him, his audience and potentially his income. So step back and get some perspective.
