Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition - Francisco de Almeida "A Son's Blood" | Hard Playthrough

This is my playthrough of the final mission from the Francisco de Almeida campaign in Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition. I'll be placing time stamps for each part of the scenario in the comments section for those looking for a specific part. Enjoy!
Francisco de Almeida mission 5 was an interesting change of pace. Having to convert a certain number of men to then convert the leader felt a little like too much effort, but playing a game of "Defend the Wonder" towards the end was fun, although not particularly difficult. I suggest either getting to Imperial Age before capturing the city as fast as you can, or capturing the city as quickly as possible and trading in the market to get Imperial Age very quickly, as destroying Diu's wonder without Imperial Age technology felt extremely difficult when I attempted it. I was surprised at how enjoyable the Portugese campaign was. Every mission felt different enough from each other so as to not get boring, and the story was pretty awesome too!

I've been watching your playthroughs to help me me with mine when I can't beat a certain mission. Great vids, appreciate you uploading. On this mission in particular, it's pretty easy if you convert the enemy units until you get to reds town. Then all you have to do is ignore the objective and build up your base at your leisure. I do recommend building a lot of fire ships though to defend your cannon gallons while they destroy the wonder, which is the next objective.

Currently suffering through this now. I noticed that you killed like 9 of Alfonso's men but it didn't count before the patch lol. I'm still very impressed that you managed to build 6-9 cannon galleons and take out the Wonder in only 50 years with time to spare. Your shortcut keys are on point. I'm gonna try that. Instead of building a castle, though, I'm just gonna use Alfonso's boat army to handle purple and green. That way I can spend more time mining gold, wood, and meat for the Imperial Age upgrade.

Love this mission. The initial part requires some great micro management to convert the soldiers without killing them. In my case, I chose to defeat all enemies, not the wonder. It was simply fun, fighting simultaneously in land and sea against three enemies. There's also some gaia extra troops to be found that can be used for the further push inside.

Trick: do not convert Alfonso early. just gather minerals and build two castles in front of the bridge and in front of the base (Green). then make 30 ships, after that u are ready to convert Alfonso ;) it's sad that the campaign has no competitive component. (Campaign Ladder - quickly and efficiently complete the mission)

wow at the start u killed so many Alphonso's red guys! In recent patches u can only kill 6! So we need to be more stealthy about converting the 10 units and converting Alphonso.

The mission was bugged at this time 11, I didn't realise until after I played through that I wasn't meant to kill so many.

I just completed this mission on hard mode on my Series X. My game looks completely different, I feel like I was play on extreme ffs lol... After converting Alfonso I received 3 transport boats full of enemies inside xD wtf!

Of all campaign characters Afonso is the most unsufferable 11: like the dude would call you a Nazi if it wasn't completely ahistorical for killing one of his doods in self-defense but he has 0 remorse for killing yours 11. Fun fact (that I forgot to test on DE before the patch oops) if you abuse the truce in HD, killing any unit, even if it's clearly not a christian one like an imam, a mameluke or an enemy leader, Afonso will say his lesson on how bad it is to kill christians in enemy territory (btw did you edit it out?), and then will become an enemy as if you killed one of his soldiers.

I think the actual campaign is great, but I agree with your assessment of character lmao. The mission is sort of bugged, even if you kill more than 6 enemy units the sub mission doesn't trigger. And that voice line didn't trigger from memory either.

Same i just took my own sweet time to convert Alphonso mango and by then had stock piled huge resources. Then it was conquest. Winning by building a wonder sucks!
