Get ready for the stinkiest of cheese, because this is the only level in the original campaign that you can intentionally break without the use of cheat codes. Here’s how (warning: this is going to be looooong): First, DON’T build a town center. The timer for the attacks won’t start until one is built. And since you have some villagers and ox carts with you from the start, you can collect as many resources as you want before building one. This is one way to cheese the mission, but we can do better than that. Next, you’ll need Reginleif. As some of you might’ve noticed, her healing rate is absurdly high. She can fully heal any unit in less than 5 seconds. Take all your heroes and send them towards the northern base. Keep Reginleif away from the rest of the heroes. You’ll find a ton of infantry, jarls, and some giants. Lure them slightly away from their base and have them fight and kill your heroes. Once they’re dead, the army will retreat back to their base. Bring Reginleif and heal the heroes. Repeat this until the orange army is wiped out. Since you’re Thor and have access to the Dwarven Foundry, you can fully upgrade your heroes even though you’re stuck in the Classical Age, and you should since the north base will fully upgrade their troops as time goes on. Once the army has been dealt with, you can destroy most of their buildings (since they don’t have boiling oil) with help from your ulfsarks. The only exception is the town center, since it can attack nearby units even without boiling oil. You could take it out with a large enough army, or… You can use Reginlief’s healing to your advantage. Just select any hero (I use Amanra since she’s got the lowest dps against buildings) and set them to Stand Ground stance. Then lure arrow fire from the TC and have Reginleif heal them. Remember that Reginlief’s heal is slow when a unit is moving or attacking, but if they're standing still, the healing rate returns to normal. Now watch as Reginleif heals the hero faster than the TC does damage to it. With this strat, you can take down the TC just with the units you started the level with. And with one enemy down, you can beat the level with ease… b u t w h y s t o p t h e r e ? Start building an army of axeman and ulfsarks, maybe some raiding cavalry too and take them towards the eastern part of the map. Separating you from Gargarensis base is a boulder wall. It has 9999 hp with 99% resistance to everything. It might take a while but you can destroy it. Do this and you can attack Gargarensis base. However, the devs knew this could happen, so they set up a double wall protected by 8 towers to prevent you form passing. Since we’ve got no access to siege weapons unless we build a TC, we would normally be unable to pass without sacrificing a large number of units. BUT by using the Reginleif healing trick, we can cross with minimal loses. Turns out that a fully upgraded hero that's standing still while being healed by Reginleif can tank 8 towers single-handedly. Once in the enemy base, repeat this strategy but be careful with their stables and archery ranges, as Gargarensis has hacks enabled so he creates units ridiculously fast. To deal with them quickly you can set up a kill zone with lots of towers. It might be slow but it’s doable. Once the enemy base falls, you can go to the southwest of the base and there you’ll find Gargarensis, Skult, and a huskarl. Kill them (or just kill Skult) and return to your base and finally build the town center. Then wait the 10 minutes for the attacks to start and, if you’ve done all of this correctly, you’ll be rewarded with... …the cutscene on the top of the cliffs failing to run because Skult, Gargarensis, or the huskarl are no longer there. The game doesn’t crash or freezes, but you’re completely unable to continue unless you restart the game. And that’s how you break the level without cheat codes. *Is there a reward for doing this?* Nope, not even bragging rights. *Is this worth it?* No. *Is this petty revenge against a level that kick your butt repeatedly when you were ten years old?* YES, and in the end, that’s what cheese is all about.

God, you killed the leviathan of one's childhood ! I still think that destroying Gargarensis' base before Odysseus' arrival as a player that tries the mission for the firsst time on hardest difficulty was enough, though. Bless Ragnarok.

When you are pop capped and have a lot of favor you can store the extra favor by queuing myth units, that way you don't sit at 100 and can't get anymore.

You can kinda 'cheese' these multiple approach defense levels if you wall them off but leave one spot open, the AI will send everything towards that one opening and you instead of sealing it off just have a long hallway walled off on both sides with towers and ranged units filling it

It’s sometimes worth to wall off all but one section, the AI will usually only focus on the unwalled section (and therefore not spread out) as far as I know. (Though not really to much of an issue in this particular mission)

Just two giant bases (norse+greek). If you are quick you can wall that pass off and turn the area into a kill zone and slowly push through with siege.

It's just a normal military base, I think Skult is there too if memory serves me right. I used to always try to destroy that base before going to finish Gargarensis off as that was always such an anti-climatic end. I thought that fighting through a slog of relentless armies and towers was a much more fitting end to the scenario. Fun fact, you can see the place that appears in the previous cutscene at the 10minute mark in that base.

Ayy, he makes Fire Giants. Pity he didn't pay much attention to them, but they have AOE special attacks, and a pretty damn good one at that. They have strong ranged attacks in general, and they fire quite quickly for having that much damage. Their special attacks can wipe out clumps of units very quickly because it's a particularly strong one. It's also why the Greek Chimaera is powerful. Extremely cost effective units.
