Just like in AoE2, towers and fortresses requires a technology (researched by clicking on a tower) to be able to hit units beneath them. That is why the fortress didn't attack your scout.

In the Expansions, they've added the Physician to fulfil that role - though, in the base game, that's true. In fact, Apollo's Temple of Healing made Poseidon's the only pantheon in the game to not feature any type of healing because they have no access to advancing via him.

If you want in the configuration menu you can change the default stance of created units from aggresive to defensive so your units dont chase everything they see

The fire breathing lion is not an upgrade to the Manticores, but a separate myth unit called Chimera and is available when you choose Artemis when going up to the mythic age (only available to Poseidon and Hades, not Zeus). Myrmidons are infantry units, so they get upgraded by the Medium/Heavy/Champion upgrades in the military academy, those upgrades upgrade all your infantry (Hoplites, Hypaspists and Myrmidons), unlike in Aoe2 where there are different upgrades for Champion/Halb/Elite UU

Atlanteans also have the same unit type-wise upgrades - and in Tale of the Dragon, the Chinese take that a whole step further and upgrade by *building*. Yes. One fairly cheap upgrade for both their mainline infantry unit (Halberdier) and their mainline archer (Chu Ko Nu). If that isn't broken, I don't know what it is.

In this game, upgrades are usually in the buildings that benefit from them or are associated. Eco upgrades in eco buildings, infantry upgrades in the academy (barracks), archer upgrades in archery range, tower upgrades in tower, wall upgrades in the wall. Finally, holding shift and issuing a command will set that command to the unit to do after it finishes the current command. I see you creating buildings and then timing your villagers to be retasked. just shift+new task, and they will automatically retask themselves. I feel like you know this but AOE2 instincts are kicking in hard :D

You can’t rely on myth units forever. The Egyptians and Norse do not gain favor like Zeus Greeks, it is generally much slower as the Egyptians and very sporadic as the Norse. You will also only be able to go up to 100 favor, so you can’t make many units at once or get lots of favor upgrades at once.

One thing you can see in the info cards is a unit’s “crush damage.” This is a semi-hidden value that does huge damage to buildings but almost all units are 99% immune to it. Many myth units do a bit of crush damage, but siege units do mostly crush damage. You can see the real difference between siege units by looking at their siege attack value.

The Petrobolos is not great, the Helepolis is way better. It is the opposite for Egyptians though: their Catapult is one of the best siege units in the game, whereas their Siege Tower is not nearly as good.

Consider reverting to the original game. The extended edition is a disaster that only adds a ton of bugs to what was a well-polished game, and actually makes it look worse. The added Chinese civilizations are also an ugly mess and not worth playing. It's just a straight downgrade from the OG.

The main problem is the bad pathing/AI and bugginess. I included the new civ being shit just to highlight that there are really no pros to playing the EE. I'm also perpetually annoyed at how badly they butchered the lighting.
