Thanks Katherine! Ive heard thst some pensioners go overseas for a holiday 6 weeks prior and 6 weeks post the end of financial year ..so technically only away for 6 weeks in each year ..but as back to back 6 weeks at a time ut ends up 12 weeks ..do you know if this is possible ? 😊

Look forward to travel insurance topic and reciprocal health agreements eg UK. Visa travel insurance revoked by banks, these recent huge insurance costs is a bottle neck to travel.

My questions are very important 1 Do I have to live in Australia for 2 years prior to be eligible for the pension, let's say 65 years old. 2 Then at 67 years old apply for the pension 3 Do I have to be receiving the pension for an additional 2 years say 69 years old before I can then leave Australia.

@AboutRetirementTV2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kathy, I still advise everyone to let Centrelink know before leaving either by calling or via MyGov. Believe me, you might get a different answer from a different officer, so to be on the safe side, it doesn't hurt to let them know. That's my advice. Not to mention that Centrelink will always ask the estimated return time for their records.

Thank you for information!! If i travel overseas for a couple of years during my 50's (or anytime before i become 67), does it affect the AWLR counting? For example, my AWLR will be exactly 35 years when i become age 67. If i travel overseas for longer than 6 months or continous 1~2 years before i become 67 (for travelling multiple countries), will my AWLR be reduced? Thank you so much!!

My understanding is that as long as your primary residence is in Australia your overseas travel should not change anything or impact your Australian residency.

I was told if I left Australia for 3-6 months before my 67 birthday (2years time) I would have add the 3-6months on to that 2 years Eg. 67& 3 months or 67 & 6months before eligible for pension payment ?? Is This Correct...

You did not mention that if you own your own home and you are overseas for more than six months the home becomes an asset and can reduce or cancel your pension.

@@AboutRetirementTVis that true? If you go overseas longer than 6 months your home is classed as an asset? Surely not. What if you go for 1 year or 3 years? But your home is not rented and kept empty of your kids live in it for free?

How do New Zealanders who are on the Special Category visa get on when they leave the country for longer than 6 weeks if we have lived both here and New Zealand for a period of time, but less than 35 years in Australia? For example 20 years in NZ and 20 years in Australia.

that is going into the area of personal advice, so outside of the scope of this channel. I think you would benefit from full advice, structured to your personal situation. I might prepare a general video of rules between Australia and NZ

Hi Katherine, I would like to know that I have been as Australian citizens for 40 years but last 10 years I was not work and I would like to know when I retire and how long could I go overseas holiday and still getting paid. If we going for less then 6 months. What should we do because I heard that people said that they only paid under 6 weeks. Could you please inform me of what is the rules. I watching your video but I still not cleared.
@AboutRetirementTV2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kong, going overseas for less than 6 months is fine, your Age Pension will continue as normal. After 6 weeks though the supplements will stop, so you will only received the bare Pension payments, but once you return to Australia, your supplements will be reinstated.
@kongung5632 жыл бұрын
What is the bare pension?. So when I retire I could go overseas for up to 6 months and still get my pension.
@AboutRetirementTV2 жыл бұрын
@@kongung563 as mentioned before, your supplements will be removed after 6 weeks, so the bare pension currently is $900.80 per singel and $679.00 per couple each if eligible for the full payment

If we come from NZ to live in Australia I know we can claim the Age pension from Australia but do we also have the choice to continue claiming NZ pension but pay Australian tax? If it is possible would we escape the Australian asset/income tests as we don’t have asset testing in NZ.

HI Susan, yes I know in NZ there is no income and asset testing, however regardless of anything else in Australia you will be subject to the same testing as everyone else, so unfortunately you will have to go through Income and Assets Tests as well.
