Thank you for another method of scruffing new decks (Tarot or not) to old. Some variations I have used include "Yellowing" both side's centers a bit using finger wipes of tea or very well diluted light or golden oak wood stain instead of dirt. . The stain is much harder to manage as sandpaper scratches in the center of the card can appear as dark lines if not quickly wiped and the solution spread out evenly on the card face or back. Also - the stain's mineral spirits take a good time airing out to get the smell of it gone before use.

Fab, love it! In the past, I’ve used tea and coffee. I didn’t think about earth. Seems like a grounding element to add. Also nice to get the smoothness of the plastic surface off. I also like the occasional cup or glass mark. Singeing them is fun too- there’s the fire element!

I aged my “Cognition” cards a few years ago. In the U.S. we have stamp pad ink by Tim Holz called Distress Ink and comes in various shades of light to dark brown. Like you showed it’s important to get the edges and any creases you make dabbed with the dirt or ink. I also like to drag the card over the edge of a table in all directions to “break” the stiffness. Thats really good! I was wondering if you've ever tried coffee grounds instead of dirt? Seems like it could create a similar effect.

Hello. I also hear that a damp tea bag works, however I like the idea of using dirt as it is exactly what is needed to make the cards look a little grubby, it is authentic. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment it is much appreciated.

@@bizarremagickI have used a damp teabag and it works wonders. I blot it with the teabag and then throw them all on the radiator to dry:)
