@@jelpanaligan364 As indicated in the video, the agenda is set by the news values, i.e. timeliness, importance or significance, prominence and proximity. Most often the agenda is set by those in power who become newsmakers..the media can either echo this or if they are more perceptive, tell the public what is behind the scenes. In any case, you should not see "media" as if it is only one entity, since private media compete with one another. Government media, on the other hand, will set the agenda based on what politicians tell them.

Is this theory correct? Is the media the one setting the agenda for the country? Are they the ones determining what we are talking about or not? Or is it the politician? Or is it us who has more say on it?

@@jelpanaligan364 The media plays a significant role in setting the agenda for a country by determining what stories are covered and how they are framed. The media can influence public opinion and shape the public's understanding of critical issues by choosing what topics to cover, how to cover them, and how much attention to give them. However, the media does not act in a vacuum, and its role in setting the agenda is influenced by several factors, especially political and economic pressures. For example, the media may be influenced by government officials, politicians or advertisers.

In a democracy, each media institution sets its own agenda...usually echoing values of its owners.

It’s not a theory it’s a fact

Theories are a result of studying phenomena...the facts are in the phenomenon and you can apply a theory to see if it applies to the phenomenon youa re studying.

@@AskProfRachelthinking scientifically, does the term “theory” imply that it hasn’t been proven? In social sciences when can we determine a theory to be true?
@AskProfRachel10 ай бұрын
As I said, a theory is an idea used to account for a situation or justify a course of action. What you prove as true or false is the use of the theory in a given situation...e.g. was this story framed to support the journalist's bias?
