Has anyone actually watched the ending? Notice how in the first few episodes, Yomi turns back and smiles at Kagura? If you watch the last few episodes that show the ending, (I think the episode where she accepts the Bane Stone) you'll notice that she no longer turns back and only walks further away.

damiester1 But even though with that ending,i feel that Madoka's theme is waaaay less tragic than Ga-rei's even with Madoka's character development.That and Madoka is more fulfilling with the many spin-offs and fanfics........unlike Ga-rei which left me so unsatisfied that i scoured through the internet for a satisfying one.This is totally one of the best animes for me out there and the best anime aired that fall

The anime got me emotional. But reading the continuing story in the manga (Ga-Rei) left me dead. The ending didn’t have me smiling at all. But overall, this is one great anime. And the manga deserved a recognition. Hahahah. Throws me back a bit, to Fate/Stay Night. 😁

"Would you kill someone you love, because of love?" Though there are some subtleties here that are harder to translate. Ai wo shinjite, korosaseru ka - "since/because you believe in love, can you kill (them)?" With them being "Aisuru mono" that is "the object of your love/affection". Also, 愛 "ai" is a very strong world. It is unconditional love. And it places an emphasis on that unconditional part and on the emotional part. It is devoid of anything horny for instance. And it is a feeling you can have for someone very close even if you are aromantic, since "ai" is kind of all-encompassing. You can have a lot of respect and admiration for and have a close bond with someone who isn't a blood relative but someone you'd call a quasi sibling. That's still "ai" and there can be zero romance. It is however ofte connotated with romantic love too since romantic love is often unconditional. And in the specific case of Ga Rei Zero there's a whole mix of sisterly love and romantic affection. These feelings carry on into the Ga Rei manga where to an extent it is Kagura's feelings who awaken something in Yomi and ultimately contribute to saving the world. Kagura may have fallen in love romantically with the Ga Rei male main character, but she remains "in love" with Yomi in ways other than romantic. Or she's just poly (up to the reader's interpretation) the same way Yomi may have been poly (iirc Yomi genuinely loved her fiancée AND loved Kagura in that mix of romantic and other-than-romantic ways).

Doubtful. It wasn't king of hill sales-wise. A while back, some american filmmaker was looking into adapting Ga Rei into live action, but the project kinda lost steam aftet some time. But if it does happen we could see a resurgence of interest for the franchise. It needs to look profitable enough tho. Something very big such as a live-action coming out simultaneously with a videogame backed by someone like Sony. So a media mix. Anime today is almost non-produced if there's no merch, other adaptations etc.
