Will I Stay Warm in this Laavu Shelter? WINTER CAMPING in Snowfall [Bushcraft]

I go out camping in winter and build a quick laavu shelter from materials I find laying around. Heavy snowfall comes later when I rest in the cover of my shelter by the warm campfire.

Things are just getting interesting when you (and so many other Bushcraft KZbinrs) pack up and go home. Adding a fire reflector would help, and piling on more pine branches with their greenery would help. Showing how to live comfortably in those beautiful surroundings for 2-3 nights would make for epic video.

Love it when there's plenty of dead fall, makes building a shelter go alot faster. I always start with forked ridge poles,then the roof

You know, you're different from other KZbinrs, you didn't destroy the nature, some of the vloggers ,they cut live trees, but you am very proud of you, you just collect all the fallen and dried trees in the forest. That's good,
@rosebondoc616
@rosebondoc616 6 ай бұрын
And that's dried trees you had use to creat a good bushcraft. I hope that others vlogger follow you .

Some places the green understory of Bush and trees needs thinned out and cut to promote larger tree growth and less basil stem competition and recruitment. There's places where "destroying the forest" actually is beneficial in keeping it healthy and vibrant and promoting habitat.

His way of going about bushcrafting is very Nordic, which is a given since i believe he is from Finland, and they have a right to roam that works pretty much exactly the same as in my own country of Norway. cutting live trees for firewood when on a bushcraft hike for example is illegal in both countries (though laws and regulations can be circumvented with landowners permission), and at least here when i grew up were taught at a young age to treat nature with respect and to leave it the way you found it; as if you were never there.

nice to see someone adding the top thatch with the branches the right way round. nicely done. I always teach people to put them on the way nature made them on the tree, sheds way more snow and water and is way more wind resistant .

As another poster wrote, adding a fire reflector would send a lot of wasted heat into your shelter. And for winter cold, a lowered roofline would make the smaller interior heat more easily. And stick some insulating branches or even mud into that windy side panel that is blowing through.

I appreciate the simplicity of the load out, building shelter from scratch, and even the 14th century outfits. However, inevitably the fluorescent orange, synthetic sleeping bag arrives on scene. If you’re going to put enough effort into hauling out a sheepskin, you may as well fully commit.

Another great video! The capture of the Sunset was spectacular. Simple gear, and simple foods makes these videos a real bushcraft. I was wondering if it would have helped to keep heat better if before you laid out the wood for the bed, to put greenery under then the logs?

I would rethink using your axe as a sledge hammer, if it broke, there goes your shelter build, your firewood collection which in turn hinders staying warm and dry. If you can carry a manual drill can you carry a mallet.

So if your were stuck here, I suggest you would be on the run? Therefore dig a pit under a big bush, light fire in it, when its out dump evergreen pines in it, cover hole with branches? The shelter you have here is like a house. aka "You're a carpenter on the run after they said that all wood is illegal." And we all know carpenters should be mathmatically smart... I like to think this is when the carpenter had secured food and is in like the remote canadian wilderness and not the first thing he did.
