A great video Rosie we've paid our dues (50+years) yet we have always been treated unfairly

We paid tax and NI all our working lives, so the pension isn't a gift from the Government, it's something we paid into all our lives. The amount of the "lower rate " of pension the majority of people get is a disgrace. Why are we being treated so badly in comparison to people who are retiring now ? The pension should be one amount for everyone., it's so unfair that those retiring now get almost £3000 per year more than older pensioners.

Without the care given by older people to their grandchildren then many parents would not be able to work.

Enjoyed the video with many salient points. We also need a commitment to the Social Care Cap which has been disgracefully kicked down the road.

We paid in. We kept this country going. All I hear is how the next generation want our homes. We went to work straight from school. We worked to pay for our homes. This Government gave us triple lock BUT bet we loose that in taxes. When will the MPs realise. Everyone gets old.

We need a designated person to oversee the needs of elderly people. We have donated money by our work ethic and contributed to this country by our sacrifes in the previouss wars. It is not charity to help us, it is paying back all that has been given. We deserve as much care and attention that is given top people who are knew to this country. Charity begins at home.

There are so many issues that only a government can help with. Modern medicine is keeping us alive longer, but we are not necessarily enjoying that life. The Government, the NHS and local councils need to help us have a better level of enjoyment, considering housing, food costs, health aids, travel aids and aids to self help. I realise that I am unlikely to live to see much improvement but I would hope that the trend can start with the incoming government and, if Age UK can give the wheel a bit of a turn then, good on you.

Getting an appointment with a GP has become ridiculous. One could see the point at the height of COVID but now, when you phone in (at 8 am) you are told there are no appointments left and to try again tomorrow; Groundhog Day anyone! And yet, if you go into the local health centre, there is hardly anyone waiting; I wonder how many people who make an appointment fail to turn up!

In my opinion, The most important need for elderly people is surely a Good Health Service. Unfortunately it's a part of growing old that your body degenerates(some more than others, but it's sadly natural). The NHS, from G.P to Hospital is becoming a shambles. G.P. Appointments...face to face, are conspicuous by their absence in my area! Haven't set eyes on my GP since BEFORE Covid. Quite convenient for the NHS in my opinion. If you can't get a diagnosis, how on earth can you get a Consultation, consequently all I see are EMPTY hospitals. Go look for yourself. A & E may be FULL, but there's a definite decline in what used to be Clinical Waiting areas. Cost Saving of course.

We don't need to be paying tax on our state pensions for a start. Also, if we want better care provision then we need to pay carers a better wage. Ny granddaughter works in a care home and she'd get a better hourly rate if she worked in a supermarket. One last thing, nobody should have to sell their house to pay for care.

A very true video about what is wrong with our care system for older people the NHS staff being under paid for years, our GP that we have to wait for so long to see, crime now out of control, young people that cannot find work.

Excellent, well done. I would like to see an additional point about transport. For those of us not city-based (Kent) bus services have been reduced or withdrawn significantly over the last 5 years. In making decisions councils rarely coordinate even within their own services for example bus reductions do not take into account reduced library hrs, a double cut and even more isolation.

Thank you Rosie. Pensioners being 'unfairly treated' rings true in so many areas. I only recently discovered that those of us born before 1950 not only have to find higher NI contribution years to receive a full 'old' state pension, but, for women, who incidentally will require 39 NI years, any applicable HRP years will not get a full 1/39th for each HRP year, but, due to the method of calculation will have a few pounds shaved off each week. This will amount to multiple thousands over their retirement years. Shameful.

It's nice for the elderly to feel they have a choice, I only hope they are able to maintain their good health because with the state our NHS is in, it's plain criminal that they are likely to be left waiting a stupid amount of hours for an ambulance before being admitted into hospital and end up on a trolley in a corridor. I wonder if the Government that gave them that was worth their vote.

The bottom line is that governments should first of all look after the people who have looked after the country all their lives before they spend millions on the rest of the world. We would then have a much happier and fruitful nation!

Why were the elderly, unless on benefits the only group of people who did not receive a single penny's help during covid and after. Towards heating, inflation and most other things that went up? I was born in 1952 and did not receive notice that I would have to work longer to receive my pension. So when I chose to retire in Sept 2014 I only received a lower pension after paying tax and NI for nearly 40 years. If I'd have known that I could have worked a further 6 months and got the newer pension. Yet some people today although they meet the age criteria have not paid NI or worked as long. Even people coming from overseas get bigger pensions without meeting the rest of the criteria. This cannot be fair or right. I may vote for a party that promises to rectify all this. Nobody has given us handouts over the years but worked hard to buy our homes. We could not afford foreign holidays and had our first trip abroad 17 years after being married, making our kids do with out. So we are labelled baby boomers and have had "everything". In their dreams we have.

I and my husband would like to see the BBC TV Licence abolished for people over 70. We hardly ever watch the BBC channels and rely heavily on freeview thank heavens for that at the moment. We cannot afford to pay subscriptions for the likes of Sky etc, So what are we paying for? We do not go out much and the TV is our only escape.

I have been disappointed by how little Age UK has done regarding this, and previous governments', failure to reform the care system, or to draw attention to the way tge system deliberately impoverishes disabled people and their families. Most publicity relates to the loss of inheritance if a person has to sell their house to pay for care. The public don't realise that someone who has worked and accrued a private pension is expected to use up their savings and then continue paying from their pension, with no safety net to cover e.g. House repairs, probably for the rest of their expected lifespan This puts the additional strain of financial worry upon the carer, on top of the anxieties about health and wellbeing, and lack of opportunities for recreation etc. There should be a public outcry about this and a properly organised campaign.

I agree with the video, but pressure to political parties must be impartial - the present gov't has had to cope with difficult times - would other parties done any better - the questions are for our future - not o n past performances and their replies should be assessed on an equal basis.

I am in agreement with all that was said. We have to overlook the present government. Our concerns is for anyone that is in power. We do need proper representation to look after us. We are the ones who made this country and its quite devastating to have to fight to get seen and heard. I could go on for longer but I will stop here. I just want to remind politicians that they will one day be in our age bracket and maybe their own families
