A train in full cry is a pleasant sight to behold. Being a railway man myself and also son of Railway engineer, I grew up travelling in trains since childhood. There were no AC coaches at that time, still I enjoyed my jaunts to the fullest, drawn by the magnificent gleaming and glittering steam powers, with an air piercing whistle to boot. Although there were constraints on velocity, the chugging sounds rendered a different thrill altogether. Times have changed drastically with the power propelled electric locos effortlessly logging 160 KMPH, savaging the stations and stationed trains enroute.

I am English and my grandfather was a railwaymen on the tiny Isle of Wight, with steam trains not much longer than a car! All my childhood I loved to see trains go by at level crossings, so finding these train videos makes me very happy.
@nagugeddam47762 жыл бұрын
Feel very happy to note that videos of steam loco hauled trains are regaling you. In Indian context, the steam locos have been phased out and are now totally extinct. Until middle 1980's, steam locos were still seen sporadically and now have been replaced by the much speedier diesel and electric locomotives. Here a special mention should be made of the diligent and supremely hardworking Anglo Indian community, who strained their every sinew in ensuring that the steam locos maintained in the top notch. Primarily residing at the way side stations, these enterprising race of people held the monsters very close to their heart and did everything in their capacity to render necessary sheen and sparkle to the steam loco. The once all pervading chugging sounds emanating from steam power have fallen silent now and have become part of fairy tales.

@@nagugeddam4776 We have steam railway enthusiasts in the UK, who lovingly restore engines and run them as tourist attractions. Unfortunately, it is now a problem to obtain good quality coal, as dependence on fossil fuels is being phased out everywhere. In York, there is a railway museum with our finest trains on display. Those 300 kmph high speed trains of western nations are much smaller and light weight compared to the Indian trains. Tell them to run a train with 24 steel coaches, each (coach) carrying at least 100 passengers, at 150 kmph (which is almost half of 300kmph). Then you will understand how difficult it is.

Yes milk tankers are cleared for 110 kmph and come with train regularly
@michaeltb13582 жыл бұрын
I realise that speeds are relative to older equipment, but 130 kph is not at all fast by European standards. In UK where tracks often date back for 150+years speeds of 140-160 kph are normal even on suburban trains. On straight level tracks as shown on this video we would expect speeds up to 200 kph, limited by signalling. I know there are much faster trains on some lines in India.
@xrude76122 жыл бұрын
i'm from the USA , 110 kmph is the same as 68 mph which is about the speed of the freight trains , passengers trains 100 mph which is 160kmph or faster . which in like France is a joke ! the bullet trains in France goes 320 kmph !
@Hot_guy2672 жыл бұрын
In France, thats not the bullet. Thats an TGV. But in both US and France, passenger trains do not carry 24 coaches like the Indian trains. More coach means more weight. In US, case is different. There freight trains are hauled mostly by EMD diesel locos, and that 2 or 3 locos for a single rake. Isnt it ridiculous that the world's superpower run trains with diesel even in 2022?

@stevepenny18352 жыл бұрын
Perhaps I am missing something here but 130kph is slow. Most UK express passenger trains run at 200kph and Eurostar runs at 300kph. French TGV's run at 320kph.
@prabhasdansana74282 жыл бұрын
Largely over railway network in India, it is 110 kmph; however, it is gradually being upgraded to 130 as already done on Howrah- Jharsuguda route, shown in the video. A few identified routes have been identified for 160 kmph ( already done in DELHI-AGRA). Bullet train (320 kmph) is under progress between Mumbai and Ahmedabad. Problem with regard to high speed trains in India is: common track for freight and passenger trains, non-availability of fence along the track and need to keep the ticket cost low. Proliferation of high speed trains as in European countries will require huge investment, which may finally materialise but after some time. You may appreciate that Freight movement in India is big, that is 1.4 billion tonnes of cargo per annum and it cross subsidises passenger cost.
