Very nice job… I like the layers you put in. You gave me a couple of good ideas for my new pup. Thanks for posting.

What was the purpose for the rear foot contact? Is it to make sure they are driving to the bottom or a requirement in the agility organization you compete in?

Loved it!! You used only toys for the whole process? My BC has such low motivation for the treat machine that we are working on basic skills to use the toy only. Any suggestions? :)

I tried with food but Sykes isn't that motivated for that as well. I did pretty much everthing with toy varation between me having the toy, a second person rewarding, so he would not always look at me but focus forward or a static toy which made him a bit slower than toy from hand as well. When I was a little further in the training I did some reward with food for front feet and reward with toy for hind feet so he understood the difference an the preference for hind feet.

Are you one about treat and train/manners minder? Just started agility with my 11yo rescue lurcher he's not shown any signs of slowing down, arthritis etc, so may as well have some fun while we still can lol), but despite years of trying to get some toy drive in him, but it was last month that I finally got him to play tug with me and he's not done it since. So just got treat and train and just wish I got one sooner as doing 2x2 weave training on grass by throwing a bit of kibble was a nightmare lol! I would prefer him doing it for toys though, mainly because he is half Lab and while the whippet/collie side keeps him pretty fit, he can still get a little tubby with too many treats and I'm currently using all his meal rations in training lol!

bravo! which verbal cue did you use for touching the target? and how did you differ from touching with the front feet and touching with the hind feet? cause it's way to fast!!!

I used the same verbal for the target as I used later for the whole dogwalk (for us it’s „hut hut“). I differentiate with reward and jackpot reward (jackpot for hind feet). That’s why I put some colored tape on the hind feet for while hoping I would see the difference better. But he went so fast that I many just rewarded every hit not making a difference if it was front or hind feet. Later he decided for himself that hind feet work better for him on then dogwalk at normal hight…

What is this thing attached to the board ? A kind of electrical clicker ? It clicks when the dog hit the board ? Thanks.

In the very beginning it actually was only a mat (target) he should hit but it was kind difficult for me to see his hits in the beginning when he was going fast so I build a ringing mat. Yes, it rings so I know he hit and I can reward - and the ring worked like a clicker 👌 he understood ring means reward so the time for him to know he did it right was perfect. There are several good target mats to buy with might work a bit better than my construction but for our purposes (having a ring and not being slippery) my ringing mat worked fine ☺️.

Hey, sorry for the super late reply. The method and the learning DVD / course I worked with is from Silvia Trkman. You can check it out on her website (www.LoLaBuLand.com). I really like her online classes

Hi ! How did you build the ringing mat please? Or do you have a website where I can buy one? Thanks

My ring mat is literally just a door ring mat from Amazon which I put into a non slippery surrounding. It’s not perfect but worked for me. My favorite to buy ring mats are from „running contacts Akustik Target“ but they only ship the electronic ones within Germany and they are quite expensive.
