Aglaonema 'Lotus Delight' Care Tips and Propagation - With Sad Updates (I Almost Killed Them All!)

In this episode, I show off a wonderful specimen of aglaonema called the lotus delight, which was hybridized by sir Greg Hambali. I daresay this is the best looking aglaonema ever created. I share the full care tips and propagate this plant in many different ways. However, be warned that this episode contains deadly mistakes in propagation, resulting in devastating result. We learn most from mistakes, which is why I decided the show must go on, and to keep on filming till the very end. Find out what happened!

As you said, plants can feel gravity. So don’t cut the stem under the soil line into pieces. Just rotate it 90° and put it back into soil, and you will have a plant from every sleeping eye bye time. Whenever a small plant has its own root system and has done some photosynthesis for its mother, you can harvest it. Another sleeping eye will wake then. This is much safer than doing those extremely short wetsticks.

I screamed in pain when I saw you taking off all those leaves 😩😩. I grow a lot of Agloanema, they are my favorite and I have never propagated them this aggressively omg. Maybe it’s cause I don’t have the heart to do so. Lol . I just cut and stick inside water- leaves and all. ( they propagate best in water in my experience) and they root in a matter of days. Your method gives you more plants but It’s a tad extreme 😩 Edit after fully watching: Next time just propagate in water directly. Cut the stem and put inside water. They have really thick and soft stems so they rot quickly when propagated in soil.

Thank youu. Actually I got greedy because of my aglaonema pictum tricolor video. Check it out in case you havent. Single node propagation was nearly 100% success there. Problem with this one is that both me and gardener overwatered it heavily.

Yup, that's Sean. Remember, he always says he's going to be greedy when he propagates. I just thought the plant was a bit young to propagate. But I try not to miss too many of his videos. He's so daring and that breeds his knowledge. A new plant person would love to watch his videos. Have a good one!

Sean you can also start plants with the leaves. If you look here on YT there is a man who puts a thin slice of potato on top of potting mix and lays the leaf on top. You cut the petiole/stem part off. I couldn't believe all the roots that came up underneath. I would imagine it takes longer but it's worth a try. I love your videos. Hi Sean, I wouldn't have cut that plant up at all because to me it was a young plant. It is a pretty plant though. When you said you were going to cut it up I was like what. I would have let that plant mature more. I have a peice of Ag a friend gave me and it is so slow to grow roots. It has a few more roots along the stem but yeah I ain't touch'n it until it gets real mature and full. Then I'll make another Ag. Yeah I was nervous with ya and then sad cause you lost everything save one peice. Yikes! your country sure has a lot of rain. But in truth babies have to be kept close to the bosom. You probably are going to buy another lotus Ag too. Happy Plant'n!

I understand that this level of utilization of each node of the original stem is only possible in VERY humid environments. I understand that ONLYPLANTS takes it for granted, but for a novice it never hurts to say it. Perhaps that is why ONLYPLANTS Aglaonemas are able to put out aerial roots: precisely because of the high humidity. That will be the indication of the feasibility of making such tiny cuttings. (In one drier environment I already confirm that you will not see any aerial roots.) In a drier environment perhaps playing with a much more porous substrate and increasing waterings. But still, I highly doubt the viability of those mini-nutes in isolation. EDIT: Okay, I didn't see the end of the video. Impressive. With the abundant amount of ambient humidity in Indonesia, and neither the stem cuttings nor the root cuttings thrived. So, if you have a drier climate, no experiments. Perhaps ONLYPLANTS will have more success with these mini-cuttings if you start them in September before the monsoons. Let's see if you can get a video of the attempt....
@onlyplants
@onlyplants 11 ай бұрын
Yess. Actually I have a video on the aglaonema pictum tricolor and also the rotundum with much much more success. They are up on the channel. The key is to watch over your node cuttings like a hawk and make sure you dont neglect them. The humidity and water level is very important and a bit intuitive.

You need a scalpel instead of big scissor to cut Aglaonema stem in order to propagate them. Usually I don't cut the leaf/leaves because it will grow faster and yes, over watering is a big no no for such a small cuttings. Single node cutting is slow and risky, I usually do 2 or 3 node especially for small plant. Another way is to air layer those long stem. Your Lotus Delight is a good one, some are super small leaves and curly, doesn't look as good as yours.

@@onlyplants after watching your video I went to Walmart looking for plants and I found a Aglaonema siam aurora and a philodendron birkin. They had a couple damaged leaves so I got them for $10 each. When I got them home the Aglaonema siam aurora ended up being three separate plants. I was so excited 😃

Everything is wrong with this. I knew these will die. Nodes for aglaonema should atleast be three. He could've propagated 2 pots. But what he did was too much. Save your money. Once you top cut leave the bottom cut as it is. So it can grow pups. Middle cut is optional if there's enough active roots. Top cut can survive even without roots as long as it has enough leaves and in a controlled environment.

Check out my episode on aglaonema pictum tricolor to see single node propagation success 😀 also the aglaonema rotundum episode. They can be propagated that way but you really need to keep your eyes on them like a hawk.

Sayang banget Aglo "Lotus Delight"-nya mas, Aglaonema suka air kok, tapi air itu penghantar mikroba (jamur & bakteri) apalagi ketemu media tanamnya mas Sean yg serba organik makin meningkatkan resiko busuk.

Yeahh I actually had a high success rate with my aglaonema pictum tricolor (video up on this channel) before and got too confident. This ones a bit harder than the pictum and also the daily rain did not help 🥲 I’ll try again though! I learnt a lot from this failure.

@@onlyplants if you are closing your store maybe you should cut back on the number of propagations from each plant and focus more on what a typical plant parent would do with duplicates. Devote more care to the propagations and still show water vs soil vs spaghnum etc. Unless you will trade/sell privately from home. I do enjoy your videos even though this one made me cringe each time you cut further down the stem. Lol. I have experimented a few times with aggressive [for me] propagating after watching many of your videos but overall I prefer to grow larger, fuller specimen plants and then share occasional cuttings with friends and family. Thanks again for all of your advice in your videos.
