Back in the 50's the Russians filmed fleets of their bombers in the sky and released the videos/tapes. This jolted us so badly that we proceeded to build our own fleets of B-52s. Now we know that the Russians never had all those bombers, they just kept the same groups flying around a circle in the sky. We will build our own hyper-sonic weapons, they will far surpass anything anyone else has. We need to be careful not to go overboard and build 100,000 of them, however.

Mach 20 is 15, 345.4 mph. If a American pilot fired that missile at a enemy 100 miles away, the enemy has around 24 seconds. What makes it worst is that most enemy radar systems in their planes won't pick up anything past 50 to 60 miles away. That only gives the pilot 12 seconds to react. .......... Damn!

@Iyas kelu Maybe in the long run, but both require very large booster rockets. There really isn’t much difference in how they work though. The Russian Avangard is the only hypersonic glide vehicle ICBM, and they aren’t replacing their entire inventory with it. The US is scheduled to replace all 450 Minuteman III’s in the next 10 years or so. It’s possible those could be with hypersonic glide vehicles. A better option might be MIRV warheads. That’s an older method but being able to lob multiple warheads on each rocket might be a superior method. That remains to be seen. The Arrow missile we are working on is similar to the Chinese DF-17 and 21. Not meant to carry nukes, it’s a tactical weapon for rapid response.

It's much easier to make anything go hypersonic if you drop the object from orbit. Wasting money trying to achieve the feat without high altitude isn't cost effective compared to launching a rocket and delivering a weapon system downward. Sure it's an additional option, but accuracy and effectiveness takes top priority over speed.

The Russians and the Chinese don't understand that we've been working with hypersonic missiles for quiet considerable. Of time and we have a lot of experience with them but we didn't want to escalate the arms race into development in them oh, but we did our research development and we put it on the shelf and this is more than 40 years ago so everything Hypersonic that Russia is developing it we've had it for the years ago and now we're going to redeploy it if we need to
@davidste60
@davidste60 3 жыл бұрын
But western countries can't shoot them down with interceptors, and the plasma that surrounds them in flight is very resistant to lasers. That's what has attracted Russia and China, it's not about saying "you can't do this" (although they can't yet, research is only research), it's about saying "you can't stop this" (because they are getting closer to being able to stop all of the older missiles).

These, I suspect will be more. So, the question then becomes, what do you need killed badly enough to spend over $1M on a missile to take it out?

This is totally different from BrahMos, this is more akin to a air-launched ballistic missile where as BrahMos is an anti-ship cruise missile. Its not an apples to apples comparison.
