The final scenes of the 1985 fim "Agnes of God". The film received mixed reviews but it is one of mine and a viewer favorite with beautiful cinematography by Sven Nykvist and an academy award nominated film score by Georges Delerue.

It is absolutely amazing that those two wild doves came up to the bell at this scene and she was able to pick one up and release it. My god it makes me cry every time I watch this scene. The music, the song, the dove. Magical. Divine. She should have won the Oscar for this role. It’s such a shame she did not. One of the greatest mistakes in Oscar history.

A very attractive man raped her and Agnes who hallucinated a lot confused him with God. To get the truth you have to pin the details together. Powerful movie

This is the most heart-wrenching study of mental illness and abuse of innocence that I've ever seen. Could anything be more poignant than this image of Agnes and the doves- representing innocence, peace and purity?

***** And the music suits it to utter perfection- brings tears, every time. It makes me wonder how many "misfits" were dumped in convents, because their world couldn't cope with them.

As heart-wrenching and haunting a scene and music as I've ever experienced. A great film that gives no formulaic answers and happy ending.

mallory When I was little and I watched this on VHS in the 80s I cried at the end when the music started. I cried when Anne Bancroft found the baby in the trash can too. 😢 Agnes Of God has always been one of my all time favourite movies. It was so brilliantly done. Jane Fonda and Anne Bancroft were so good together. The way their characters needled and antagonised each other constantly was awesome to watch. Meg Tilly played Agnes so well. It's just such an awesome movie.

I had just been to Montreal when I first saw this movie. It captured the look and feel of the rural areas in the province of Quebec. That and the beautiful film score and Agnes with her childlike personality that gives and experiences joy every day.

John Hintergardt Wow, thanks for that-I had no idea of this being changed! I remember reading in the paper circa 1979 that a nun in Canada had been charged with the murder of her child and wonder if this story was based on that incident.

I could be wrong, but my theory Is that the father is the older priest (less possible) or the younger one priest with dark hair. Why he told so aggressively to dr livingstone to quit the case? What other people from the church can know about the secret place?
