India is a tough country to live even if you were born in India. I was born there and left 34 years ago and never looked back to go to India even though i follow lot of good things happening in India. It will take another 50-100 years as Josh mentioned to have better quality of life in India. Also agreed with Josh that 90% of people in India will leave to Europe or North America if they were given Visa or residency status. Indian citizens and culture are very good & humble but its the politicians who make this great country are terrible. I have followed lots of your videos and i can tell that all of you including your lovely kids have tried to adjust in every way to india and its culture. Salute to your whole family for making such a great effort. Surely, things will work out in Portugal as all of you have good determination to adjust anywhere in the world. Yes you’re right we truly tried and gave ourselves enough time to decide if we can continue our lives here. I appreciate your support and despite many people not agreeing and leaving our channel due to this decision- it’s our responsibility to make sure our kids grow in the best possible environment, the safest and the most stable country too. However, this video and experiences like Jass's highlight a significant issue: the frustrating bureaucracy, especially with something as fundamental as the Aadhar card. Despite India's claim as an IT hub, corruption deeply entrenches inefficiencies. In the US, accessing any official document is straightforward-visit the county portal, pay the fees, and you're done, no bureaucracy. This ease significantly enhances quality of life, making the US much more 'livable' for the middle class in terms of infrastructure and services. India's economic growth doesn't equate to livability. Even Indore, touted as the 'cleanest city,' lacks basic livable conditions-proper parking, gardens, and spaces to breathe are absent, creating a mess despite the tall buildings. This issue isn't just in Indore but is a general problem across cities, where a real estate-politician-bureaucracy mafia cripples basic services and infrastructure that should be guaranteed by the government. In the US, even the average middle-class person commonly enjoys access to facilities like swimming pools or tennis courts. However, in India, such amenities often remain a privilege. Take Indore, for instance, where I grew up. There, playing tennis required membership at the elite Yashwant Club-an exclusivity that's rare in the US, where public facilities are more accessible and enhance everyday life. Moreover, urban planning in India can seem chaotic. Anyone can seemingly obtain permits and open businesses by bribing officials, leading to haphazard development without proper zoning. This contrasts sharply with the West, where obtaining business permits involves strict regulations and clear zoning laws. Even comparing populous countries like China and Japan shows stark differences in how urban environments are managed. Sometimes, I think if you plotted corruption on a graph, it would form a deep parabola, with India at the lowest point and countries like the US and Japan at much higher levels of transparency and efficiency. Beyond the tangible disparities, there's also a notable difference in the social fabric. In India, respect seems increasingly tied to wealth rather than moral values, contributing to a degradation of the value system. No body cares of means . In USA , if we give example of Bill gates, or ELon musk, they have been able to succeed honestly by pure business acumen and they probably had not to worried about getting permists by paying bribes. can you assume same thing in india? There is another worrying trend: This pursuit of quick solutions has also fostered a booming market for inauthentic spiritual remedies, indicating a deeper societal malaise. Black money is rampant in this spiritual market and we know how corrupt businessman make use of this via spiritual markets. Government (BJP specially, [because there is no hope from congress] should immediately fix this,. This is MINIMUM basic needs and vote bank of BJP is middle class. At the minimum JUST fix life of middle class and make it easy to live. This need to be fixed NOW. This should be easy low hanging stuff to fix and I dont know why BJP government is so stupid to understand its votebank. BJP should understand that they got 100% seats in MP. This are simple examples and I am not even mentioning about traffic bribe which I know you paid last year [ Probability is 100% :)] Compare this to here : Last week i wanted copy of title [called registry in India], I just went to country portal and paid the fees $4 and I got that in email. If a person is under the shower and we criticize how dirty the person is, is not kind at all (he is cleaning himself). Similarly, Bharat is developing and instead of seeing the positive, criticizing is not nice and kind. The problem is you spent your hard-earned money lavishly…you lived in a 1.25 lakhs apartment, bought an expensive car, you paid for expensive hotels and travels. In my humble opinion you should have lived simple life until your business takes off. One and a half year is not enough to start a business in a foreign country. Europe is not a good place to move. I advise getting a farm that caters to Indian vegetables, which can be exported to Indian grocery stores in the UK; small hot chilies, passion fruit, mangoes, etc., are very expensive in the UK since they come from India. Also, it will serve the local Indian community in Portugal or Spain.

It took India only 3 years to completely digitize payments at all levels using UPI & India stack. Europe was built upon looting wealth & resources from India & the global south.. & you have the audacity to wave that wealth in our faces & mock us for poverty.. India was the world's richest nation for almost 2000 years & it took only few centuries of invasions & colonization to bring it down. Greeks were defeated, Rome fell & British empire too vanished(now going bankrupt).. nothing remains wealthy for long.. so don't try to mock India for it's poverty that you caused.. coz one day your beloved Europe & it's master USA will fall too. I think Josh is right here. You can't expect someone who has lived his whole life in Europe to adjust to Indian standards. India is nowhere close to Europe. Central government is building expressways and national highways but the infrastructure on local level is still as it was 10 years ago. There is too much corruption at the bottom of the pyramid. A few months ago I went to get police verification for my passport. I had to pay bribe to the police officer to get my police verification done. You can't get any work done in India without bribing government officials.

I was also considering India for retirement and I’m not looking for work so that was not an issue for me in India but I found it too hectic and noisy. people like them (Indians by birth, or married to Indian) don't leave India because they dislike it, it's because it's very expensive to achieve the same level of basic necessities like in first world countries. You will realise that you can't make that money in India to ensure the basics you need. That's when people leave India, and are not happy to leave but they have to.

Great Video! Indian Government needs to take note and start developing Infrastructure to stop educated and rich Indians leaving and encourage investment. They also need to farm and produce higher yielding crops and foods which are scarce. This would also help Farmers who are struggling to make a living. I had the exact same experience visiting India, lets hope people start holding the Gov to account!

Most government officials are corrupt and when we speak with friends in India they say that we have to accept and pay into corruption. that is the only way. Some people are saying India is great. After having a road accident we were on the way to the police station to make a report. On the way we spoke with a friend who advised that we should avoid the police as they would extort money from us. They will target us as we have the money. It was advised that we get our car repaired privately. Our priority is our family, not the country. The country is as good as its political system.

@@AgnesMann Sorry to hear about your negative experiences in India. I would love to see a video on this topic although I’m not sure how well others would take criticisms of the country. I’m an Indian from the UK, and I hope to go back one day to help improve the situation. I agree that the political system is a problem, but democracy only works if the people keep the government in check. I feel that the public's indifference towards making a change is a deeply rooted cultural issue, which is why I believe retaining the educated and wealthy classes should be a priority for the government. I hope your upcoming move to Europe brings you better experiences.

I agree to what ur husband is saying but India is changing and for a country of India's size with it's massive population it will take time like ur husband said 10-20 years down the line. We had so many corrupt government after Independence that it wasn't until Shri Atal Bihari became PM in 1998 that the government paid any heed to India's infrastructure. He was the first PM to conncet India from North to south and East to west through roads. The road network called "Golden Quadrilateral". After he left the PM office again everything went back to it's pace. Also, the system was corrupt which doesn't change quickly. Now after 2014,modi government has been spending like crazy on Infrastructure and that too at unprecedented pace but for the country of India's size it will still take a decade or too. For first bullet train between Surat to Mumbai it took a decade and still awaited bcoz of change in state government. In this way at present India could not develop like Projects laid down and gets completed in China.

Its difficult for people who leaved in west to adjust in india .we are used to it . Roads and all i see india is not a developed nation and our gdp ppp is still less it takes time . Talking about cleanliness it must be in mindset of people to keep clean i think its far better now than before since u have not there i am born in india . But moving is a major major decision and then again to new country..... absolutely new in form if culture, traditions and language . I will still advice you to checkout and explore the option of. Chandigarh & Bangalore........before moving out May be that changes your decision. Modern cities.... Literacy rate very very high. Neat & clean and well organised and disciplined ( civic sense in a whole). Well planned cities...... Education system among the best.
