Agnetha Faltskog - Can't Shake Loose

Agnetha sings her fifth song from The Heat Is On Special in April 1983. This show was part of a European tour that Agnetha made to publicise her first post Abba solo album, The Heat Is On. The album reached the higher regions of the charts across Europe, including No.1 in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Belgium and Denmark.
Can't Shake Loose was released as the lead single from the album in North America. This song has a heavier beat, and was more suited to American music style. Agnetha visited New York on August 22nd and stayed for 7 days for promotional advertising on radio. The song reached number 29 in USA and number 23 in Canada. On September 30th Agnetha traveled to London to promote this song. She fell down some steps and cut her elbow while making an appearance on Noel Edmonds Late, Late Breakfast Show. She was in pain but still went on to sing.
Perhaps the most intriguing feature of this performance here is that unusually we get to see Agnetha dash off stage at the end of this song to her dressing table and assistant, where she can change outfits for the next song.

Well its all lip syncing I think which is a shame for a concert. It sounds like she's either singing very quietly or not at all while her album vocals instead played instead of her mic being on.

Its nice that Agnetha varies her style to cater for different tastes Max. She seems to master whatever she tackles, that's her musical genius! I think the ending is included to show that she's not pretentious.

Agnetha has always been close to the fans Rustie, going back to her early days touring the folk parks. She even rushes into them while still singing at the end of Shame. You're right, she's "One Of Us" beyond doubt. We'll have to drag Amo kicking and screaming into the Mamma Mia movie this summer Rustie, that should convert her to decent music!

she was for sure the who 30 minute special was pre recorded I believe. This wasn't really a tour. It was a one off TV special . She said later in the 80s she didnt tour. I think she mimed a song at Montreux and that maybe she did a spot date but theres no live footage of her after abba promoting a song expecpt a swedish TV show where she did "the heat is on" (and that was over the tape) and the one with Garry Barlow,. She had a fear of flying and apparently was reluctant to perform and particularly singing live.

AbbaDefender and Aniballuis: I love Agnetha as much as you do, but that doesn't mean I can't criticise her for miming - especially when we all know what a fantastic live singer she is! Okay, it was the 80s and a lot of singers did mime then. But I feel she *should* have sung live on TV (where possible) to compensate for not touring. AbbaDefender: you are clearly completely *deluded* if you seriously think she isn't miming here... I'm a big fan of Agnetha's too, but not a crazy and deluded one!

hm the ending just before she puts the mic down there is a subtle difference when she goes "I cant shake" then puts the mic down the "loose is quieter" I would suggest the mic wasn't totally silenced but was way quieter than her tape so you couldn't hear her voice or perhaps it was live over the backing tape to the studio audience but turned down so the tv broadcast didn't pick her her live vocals and the band. Like Whitney and the star spangled banner where it was done live but the playback was broadcast not the live feed. There is the odd bit it sounds like there is some additional backing vocals . It is in no way a live sound your getting to hear but I wonder if it was done live and overdubbed or something.

This was a totally crap TV special, as all the songs are MIMED!! Bloody cheek, if you ask me!!! Agnetha puts her microphone down and runs off stage before this song has even finished playing! And the poor 'band' behind her look rather bored...
