I have never heard this performed, the choral version...mind-tingling, soul-stirring, fabulous voices, just as God created them...Beautiful!! ... Also known as Adagio for Strings Op.11 for the non-choral version....Samuel Barber created a masterpiece with this....choral version original release in 1967...I never knew about the choral version, and I love the orchestral version, until this came across my recommendations....at least this was one good thing YT suggested....

I cannot add any thing to what has already been said about this beautiful piece from Samuel Barber. My first encounter with this was from the movie Platoon known the as The Adagio For Strings. I can't listen to this without losing it emotionally and have asked my family to include this as part of my funeral music. I lost my wife of 54 years 5 years ago to cancer and this beautiful piece reminds me of her and how much I miss her. She was my Agnus Dei (Lamb of God)

Samuel Barber is one of my favorite 20th century composers for voice. I like his songs, even the ones that are quite dissonant, I love his opera "Vanessa, " especially the quintet at the end, and his sacred music is beyond compare. He stands out to me as one of the 20th century's greatest composers. And let us not forget "Adagio for Strings." But how dare they put a commercial right in the middle of it!
