I was in a shopping centre and I saw a Royal Marine playing this song on his guitar standing by one of the shops, he had two artificial legs which I later found out he lost in a tour of duty in Iran. When he started playing everyone stopped and watched him, there must have been nearly 100 people and many were also in tears - it really hit home. Afterwards I went up-to him and saluted him (I’m a former member of the 1st battalion of the Royal Green Jackets and we were provided ground infantry support for the Marines and the Parachute regiments), I was lucky I only ended up with PTSD after coming back from my tours of duty. This song always will be one of the greatest songs ever written in my opinion.

You can’t get closer to perfection than this. If humans are still around in 1000 years, they will still listen to this song.

The reason people love this is because it's authentic, and we as humans can sense this and what a talent Mark is and his music and his soul. End of story. The day "AI" steals this, we might as well give up.

I was 15 at the time and I loved Dire Straits. In the Netherlands this concert was on the radio in the evening around 9pm I think and I was waiting with my TDK SA90 tape to get ready and record my favorite band, Dire Straits. During the recording I got into a huge fight with my dad because I had to go bed and sleep and be fit for school the next day. 'But don't you realize how important this is!?' I cried out. In the sort of struggle in my bedroom where my dad tried to push all the buttons on my tiny stereo at once.. that little stereo which I got second hand and bought from all the money I had which was 65 guilders at the time, that struggle made me loose some 15 seconds in the middle of this song. I was horrified. Seeing this brings me right back to that time.. where the only important things in life were girls and music. Oh man, how little did I know..

Quand tu joues avec une telle émotion une chanson aussi magnifique, avec Clapton en guitare rythmique pour t'accompagner, c'est que tu es forcément un génie musical.
