He is 💯 % correct. Don’t waste your entire life on building that house. In another 10 years your son would be in higher studies. He will go to another town or another country be independent. He gets married might move to another house with his family. Nowadays no one stays with parents. My relatives built huge homes when their kids were in PUC. In 3-4 years their kids moved to Germany and US for doing MS, got jobs there and settled after marriage. Now they are just 2 of them in huge house. Plus if you are planning to stay in US for 15 years I am sure you won’t go back. Telling from experience here. We came to US buying a plot in RR nagar and to make some money to build house and go back. We also bought another apartment for second income which is not gone on rent. There are thousands of apartments nowadays totally worthless investment. We are in US from 10 years and we don’t know if we will go back. Now our property is just lying there. Kids don’t like to go back to India. We also got used to US life. We are older too scared of changing jobs. If you really want to go back like he said invest in farm land. Since you are from chikmagalur buy those malenadu lands so beautiful. But be aware that in case you choose US citizenship and your son is OCI he can’t own that land. Better to buy an apartment now and move back to village in your retirement. That way you don’t have to stay in US for 15 years. If you do want to go back then just go in 4-5 years. Good luck.

Farm house night be bigger but ground reality maintenance not easy.. Labour's sigalla, security.. What if he changes mind after 15 years and wants to stay back in US with kids, after selling land he will get money is Rs and converting it to dollars will be like 10crores Rs to 10lakh dollars
