Agroof SCOP - March 2023 with Benoit GEORGES, pig farmer
Benoit GEORGES, a Duroc pig farmer at Mas de la Rouquette in the Gard, has planted a hundred trees in the paddocks with several objectives
• to guarantee the well-being of the pigs
• to improve the quality of the meat
• to provide nutrients with the oaks and fruit trees
He was advised and supported by Agroof, a consultancy firm specialising in agroforestry.
Fabien LIAGRE, R&D project manager at Agroof SCOP, is experimenting with ursus cactus fences, designed to protect the plants from pigs barking and scratching. The larger screens protect the young plants, and the lower ones protect the bark and roots of the adult trees.
