My theory: The King Yoongi is the dark side of him and the Black haired Yoongi is the one who came up from Rags. And they have a constant battle of dominance. I don't think so. He mentioned Gwanghae in the lyrics, which was a Joseon Dynasty King and there was a movie about him where he hired a look-a-like of a lower class to double for him because of multiple assassination attempts. Turns out the look-a-like ruled better and was more well-liked and they came into conflict with each other because the ral king turned mad/afraid of dying/arrogant. Maybe it's a double role.

Daechwita (대취타) is derived from the words great (대), to blow (취), and to beat a drum (타) and it describes the kind of music (often comprising of woodwinds and drums) that was played by a troupe of military musicians, particularly as a procession before the king. At the beginning of the MV, you can hear a man chanting and that was something that the leader of a daechwita would call out. 💜

I just got info that the MV is based off a Korean movie called The Masquerade. In the movie, there’s a fake king that rules while the real one is in hiding. I do think the song is intentionally ambiguous...ish, as to who it's aimed at. I did initially feel like for the ending(to reference looking down with his feet on the ground/ Jimin's normal award) black haired Yoongi, who strives to be normal and has his feet squarely planted on the ground, is essentially doing away with the version that has been changed by the effects fame/power. Almost like he's saying he'll do whatever it takes to ensure that he'll never be like those he's criticizing.

Daechwita is tricky because the actual translation is a hit or something but culturally a daechwita is like a military dirge played as the king leaves his castle played with traditional korean instruments (which Yoongi has incorporated into the beat). So he says "daechwita play it loud." I think the double entendre was intentional knowing them. Also, the drawing on the scroll is of Bang PD (the boys have drawn him like that a few times over the years - JK came up with it I think and it's kind of their shorthand for him). In this, he's depicted with the chinese character for "dance" as his mouth. (Maybe telling Yoongi to dance because Yoongi says often he thought he was going to be a producer and then they asked him to dance.)??

Yas!!!! I've been waiting for this, loved this so much. Anitra and Caitlyn both getting wreaked by Suga and I'm here for it! Anitra when you stopped to appreciate Yoongi's undercut omg yes, he looks so good with it I don't know what it is but him and RM i find looks so good with undercuts (though RM is undercut and the kinda faux hawk look). He went off and I was loving it. The part with Bang PD dancing I laughed too with glee oh my gosh so good. I really loved how he came for some people that I don't think normally get called out like I especially like the line "That's your excuse for poppin' pills, cry me a river you got no skills". I think they definitely did a great job translating the lyrics to english on the official mv in an impactful way so it also sounds great in english as I've seen I think a more direct translation read " Doing drugs for such a petty excuse, I feel sorry for you, it’s just that you have no talent". But whether Yoongi had something specific in mind when he wrote that lyric, I think it could be a blanket statement that applies to many.

Heads up Daechwita (literally “great blowing and hitting”) is a genre of Korean traditional music consisting of military music played by wind and percussion instruments, generally performed while marching. (source:Doolset, wiki) o3o whole army twitter got a history lesson yesterday by the k-army translators, about the robe that blonde August says about a his social class, the execution showing which dynasty it basically plays in. Also bts' family clans also came back up in the conversation. As Yoongi's family clan actually suppose to be very powerful in the dynasty it plays in. (you would probably already seen a comment about it somewhere before~)

Instruments used include nabal (brass horn), nagak (seashell horn), and taepyeongso (shawm), with jing (gong), jabara (cymbals), and yonggo (hangul: 용고; hanja: 龍鼓; drum painted with dragon designs and played with mallets). This style of Korean military music is often used in the reenactment of the Guard Changing Ceremony at Seoul's Gyeongbok Palace, as well as in Deoksugung Palace. A special daechwita today is under the service of the Traditional Guard Unit, Republic of Korea Army, and is the only one that also has the Ulla (small tuned gongs), Pungmul-buk and Galgo in its instrumentation. This is the same case for traditional Korean bands outside the homeland, which also have a pungmul marching percussion battery (with kkwaenggwari, janggu and pungmul-buk drums) at the rear with distinguishing uniforms between the two ensembles. Few modern bands based in schools sport bass drums together with the kwaennggwari, galgo and janggu as part of their instrumentation. Uniforms in the band are in royal gold or red and white, as these were connected in the Imperial period to the Imperial family and the armed forces.
