Haegum is one of the most popular instruments in Korean music and is often considered a bridge between string and wind instruments with a sound that is a hybrid of a violin and a viola. The other meaning of "haegum" is applied when it is used in popular Korean vernacular, in which it means "lifting a ban and allowing something that is forbidden”. Yoongi said “The word 'haegum' came to me. When I was young, I played rhythm games. I love rhythm action games. When beating a certain stage, you'd unlock a forbidden song; then you could play a new rhythm. It was 'freedom from forbidden. Why don't I try and break free from those things?'" His interpretation of "Haegum," is "a new kind of haegeum" which is based on "lively rhythm.", he claims that "Interpretation is free for all" and demands, "Out with the nonsense." He criticizes societal systems by rapping "Freedom of expression / Could be reason for somebody's death" before questioning "Could you still consider that freedom?". He states clearly in the lyrics, "This song's simply about freeing what's forbidden." However, he notes that it is important to "remember to differentiate freedom from self-indulgence."

I heard that this mv is basically the cycle from Daechwita repeated, over and over again. Sometimes, you're born as the corrupt forces and sometimes you're meant to tear the establishment down. At the end of the video, when the cop smirks right before being killed, it's basically a statement that "even if I die, what I stand for (corruption and power) is never really dead". Basically, Yoongi said ACAB 😌

Yes you're correct Nigel. "Scar" lol, is Agust D. He always has a scar. Representing his own scars. His alter ego, Agust D. He's always portrayed as a villain, a person in power, but nevertheless a villain. He's Suga's opposite side who holds lots of anger, fear, sadness, resentment, vengefulness his darker emotions. Previously in Daechwita, BOTH Suga AND Agust D had scars. He was in a different state of mind, he said he had lots of anger, but here only Agust D has a scar, it's not as red ig he's healing, but Suga has none. He's trying to get rid of that side of himself here. And Suga is Suga, himself. It's always been Suga VS Agust D. But he said in IU's palette that he's changed a lot and has learned to forgive and be a happier person, so Agust D can go to rest now. That side of Suga, Agust D, is gone....for now. He says he's not sure when he'll come back....IF he ever comes back, however he said if those strong emotions return, then so will Agust D. It's kind of bittersweet. He said somewhere in the physical album that from this point on, we can expect to see "SUGA"'s debut....not Agust D, but SUGA in his next album 💜

I heard that the AgustD albums are a trilogy. In Daechwita he “killed” the first AgustD (who’s scar was pretty fresh meaning the pain was new), in this one he “killed” the second AgustD (who’s scar is almost healed meaning the emotional and mental trauma he has he’s started to deal with), and now he’s a “healed” Yoongi. That’s why he has no scars. In one of the promos for the album Yoongi said that this represents a more mature and healed version of himself.

There were SO many callbacks to "Daechwita"! He did an amazing job, because he's a freaking genius. I think the dirty/corrupt cop was the reincarnation of the corrupt emperor, and the criminal Yoongi was reincarnated from the black-haired Yoongi in "Daechwita". Once again, he killed the corrupt version and took back his own kingdom. Because haegeum also means to lift a ban or to stop forbidding something, I think he's saying that he's now free from what other people say, especially keyboard warriors and politicians, and that he's going to live life on his own terms from now on. In Daechwita Low-class AgustD kills, King AgustD who was also a tyrant with a lot of psyc problems, and becomes king himself, it also is ancient times. After low-class AgustD became the new king he isn't a tyrant but he isn't necessarily good either, a corrupt mafia cop who values money and power a lot, and got it the hard way anyways. So, in haegeum, it's newer age and time. Suga who overcame a lot of his issues kills Lower class AgustD who is also the king/mafia now. So the plan is to attack places under him, steal his money and burn it, obviously Mafia loses his temper, and hunts him down but gets killed by Suga in the end. In Amygdala, Suga explained that this scar was made by his traumas. Daechwita King had a deeper scar, mafia cop had a faded scar. Suga has none, he overcame his past traumas. So overall it's about growth. So by killing AgustD, Suga, basically said: "My fan, my hommie, my fam don't worry, I'm really fine now damn"

I feel like he keeps tryna kill off the king which is his alter ego, but he keeps coming back and so it's just an ongoing cycle of him not wanting to accept that the "king" will always be apart of him. There's sm more to unpack with how he used to be the one fighting against those with power (starred from the bottom and struggle) and now that he is one of those that's with it he doesn't want to come to terms with it and tries to kill the "king" constantly.

it‘s basically the same concept as in daechwita. daechwita is about a peasant rising up to a tyranical emperor beheading people left and right and in this video, it‘s a robber and a detective/cop. he’s stealing to get by (that‘s why he steals tangerines in one clip) and also to finally feel free (which is why he burns his share of the money stolen when the detective/cop is holding the gun to his head. it reminds me of the dark knight when the joker burns his share of the earnings and says that it‘s not about the money, but rather about sending a message. this is also why he sticks his head out the cop car like joker did. it‘s basically showing that even though a lot of time has passed since kingdoms with emperors ruled with an iron fist, you‘re still being opressed and having your freedom tampered with.

Agust D is literally talking about everything that is wrong in the world right now. Since haegeum is a traditional instrument but also means liberation of prohibition. He is really asking who's on board for the revolution, for the new world, for the new kingdom and to get on board now. So we can fix everything that is broken. This is a masterpiece. The lyrics and wordplay are incredible. This is what rap in my humble opinion should be. A way of making people aware of all the social, economical issues and more. And Suga just did that. To add further layers to this, it’s really pointed commentary on capitalism or essentially: feudalism. What became his weapon in the beginning (his tool to criticise & stand up) became a utensil. In the end he has to partake in this because of obligation. literally; to feed himself. A Thailand ARMY (shout out to Sky_hxneul) was kind enough to educate us and explain that this was filmed in Thailand and that place is called the "Thief Market" Rattanakosin Island's (Old name of Thailand from 1782-1892) and it was the first international shoping center in the period after the abolition of slavery.. This is how he explained it : so this market came to exist because the people in the palace freed from slavery when they moved out of the palace, they received some goods from the master and also stole some They then brought those goods to sell them in this area.
