AH YOU SANK ? SUNK MY BATTLESHIP! Milton Bradley Battleship Commercials 1960s-1970s

A little controversy here in Nostalgialand...One commercial version clearly says, "You SANK my battleship." The other says, "You SUNK my battleship." Do I trust the high-society fellow or the kid who plunges backwards off the side of a pier? At any rate, these are two great, classic Battleship commercials....Enjoy!
An excerpt of the history behind the game:
The game of Battleship is thought to have its origins in the French game L'Attaque played during World War I, although parallels have also been drawn to E. I. Horsman's 1890 game Basilinda, and the game is said to have been played by Russian officers before World War I. The first commercial version of the game was Salvo, published in 1931 in the United States by the Starex company. Other versions of the game were printed in the 1930s and 1940s, including the Strathmore Company's Combat: The Battleship Game, Milton Bradley's Broadsides: A Game of Naval Strategy and Maurice L. Freedman's Warfare Naval Combat. Strategy Games Co. produced a version called Wings which pictured planes flying over the Los Angeles Coliseum. These early editions of the game consisted of pre-printed pads of paper. In 1967 Milton Bradley introduced a version of the game that used plastic boards and pegs. Conceived by Ed Hutchins, play was on pegboards using miniature plastic ships. In 1977, Milton Bradley also released a computerized Electronic Battleship, followed in 1989 by Electronic Talking Battleship.

I've always loved this game since i was a young kid! I remember these funny commercials and especially loved the first one back then! Today I still play Battleship with my granddaughter and we always joke around saying in funny voices "Hey, you sunk my battle ship"!😅

There’s also Electronic Battleship, released in 1977, and it’s the same as the original “Battleship”, and it has features such as two moving buttons to put it a code, and a “Fire” button as well, and after you put in a code, you pressed “Fire” and you hear a sound of a missile dropping whether you get a hit or a miss.

I used to have this game way back when. The flaw in the design is that you had to rely on the honesty of the other player to stand a chance. It took my younger sister years to understand that. When the penny finally dropped for her, I announced my immediate retirement.

The one with the kid falling into waters the one I most remember. They ran that one forever! From the late 60s into the late 70s. Kid looks like he's ready to hold his nose the second he hits the water! LOL, I'm sure it was some compromise he worked out wt the director. Ever try to fall backwards like that into water without getting a ton of water go up yur nose?

SANK is correct, the simple past tense (as the sophisticated Englishman properly knew). Likely spawned by the popular movie Honey I Shrunk the Kids, an epidemic of misusing "shrunk" in place of "shrank" (and Sunk, Stunk, etc.) has taken insidious root, afflicting not only vernacular speech but even writing in once-reliable major media, such as top newspapers, magazines, network broadcasting, et al.
