One thing you missed was that the species the he was imprisoned for eating into extinction were all destructive. If they had lived they would have wiped out many other species in their environments. This was revealed in the manga after the desert arc. I always felt that his tough guy acting was just an eccentricity he put up but inside he was a good guy. This is similar to how Sunny comes off arrogant and vain but again under that he is a good person. Doesn't make him any less awesome.

Is Toriko worth reading? Or is it just another average Shounen?

There is a decrease in quality after the time skip but Toriko as a whole has never been excellent in characters or story instead focusing on creativity. Much of the appeal are the strange animals and items that are found within the world of toriko similar to One Piece but nowhere near as dramatic or engaging. On the other side Toriko has some very gritty art work & some savage battles. I like the characters since they're all 25 year old men especially with the 80s shonen look that it has. It definitely gets more interesting in later chapters when more characters are introduced. If you like the Pickle Arc of Baki Son Of Ogre or Kinnikuman or Kongo Bancho you might like the outrageous quality of Toriko. I love Kongo Bancho and Pickle from Baki son of ogre he is so adorable haha, i'm so hyped of the upcoming fight with him and Musashi in Baki Dou😍 I think i will give Toriko a try, the artstyle looks amazing, thanks bud!

At first i hated zebra ..u know because he screams a lot and noisy 🙄 but that what he does, as in time i learn that zebra actually nice and op ,he got really various skill useful in combat ,only second to toriko because he has 3 m*hfckr demon inside him😂 zebra. Is the my fav
