Just something I wanted to point out, whenever Fern said "It doesn't suit you." I personally interpreted that to be her basically saying she likes Stark more the way he usually is.. the real him. And I think thats such a clever way of writing if thats intended and very cute.

For real, consider all of her previous comments about him, from the coward comments, to the tiny dic, to the he's a pervert comments, as she ever demonstrated any behavior that was more than mere common courtesy? Even when it was HIS birthday she got mad at him! I wish we would get a cute romantic subplot but the more this behavior goes on the less believable it becomes.

SPOILER: The manga basically confirms this since later on she calls Stark out for not doing things "like Stark" when he takes her to a bunch of places Frieren recommends on their first date instead of doing things he would wanna do.

The story just doesn't really focus on it but they already know they both have feelings for each other. They're more focused on the journey they have.

Best waltz animation I've seen since Sleepy Beauty. Yes, I said it was even better than Beauty and Beast's. Also, the composer of the OST, Evan Call, gave a special shout out to the animators that during the cut of the violinists, they timed it to the score perfectly, as the bows were on the strings accurately! The mammoth attention to detail in this show is truly astounding. I may be on a whole bottle of hopium, but I'm pretty dang sure if HIMmel asked Frieren to dance, her answer would NOT have been "Imma eat cake!"

For the plant monster curse, if we put it into a dungeons and dragons comparison. Maybe it's wisdom saving throws yhat are needed to resistfalling asleep. Stark is a fighter/barbarian type class, so his dump stat is probably wisdom. Fern and Frieren are intelligence based casters, so they probably don't have as high wisdom as the priest/cleric whose spell casting is from wisdom. Which is why he stayed awake.

This episode will forever be an example of how a anime can elevate a manga (typically anime's are viewed worse then their manga counterpart). Specifically, the entire Fern and Stark dance sequence is only one little side panel in the manga. Yet here it's done not only fabulously but it conveys so much additional meaning.

When Sein talks about the kind of woman he wants, he specifically says he wants an "onee-san." Which literally means "big sister," but tends to indicate a certain type of lady: older, refined, nurturing, and ideally with a certain type of figure. Frieren may be an "older lady," but she's definitely not an onee-san, no matter how much she lords her age over others.

~3:30 Something I see a bit is folks saying something like elf magic being separate, but I think in general there's a thing this setting has where humans and elves aren't doing anything really different magically. A lot of anime and translations tend to use "human" when it probably actually means "mortal" I think. So while Frieren is barely mortal bhuman standards, I don't think she is using anything different than Flamme or Fern uses, versus what demons do whichs eem to be a bit more inherently weird/different.

While I normally don't detest predatory tactics, especially from non-sapient creatures no matter how twisted they may seem, although vocal mimics imitating either the child or parent of their prey to lure them in is on that edge (so long as its not a sapient doing it it doesn't go over that edge), but for some reason the leisurely predator bugs me, the type that will put an entire town to sleep, or petrify them, especially if its a magical stasis kind of method and not just a mass kill poison, and then just crawl into town or use a tendril to snack on the people whenever it feels like it.
