Ahmet Zappa on Growing up with Frank Zappa

Moon and Dweezil are being shafted. Why didn’t Gail give them equal status within the ZFT? Pretty shitty if you ask me.

Well, before Frank died, Frank told Gail to sell everything buy a house on the beach and live there. Her story is she tells, she had to sell everything because they had bills to pay for Franks medicine. I find that hard to believe that Frank didn't have health or medical insurance. Frank was always a forward thinker. Zappanale in Germany fought Gail for the ability to have bands come and play Franks music, they won. I stumbled across Gail at a show and she was there to make sure Dweezil didn't play stuff he was not allowed to. Gail should have divided things up more evenly, my opinion, and not leave it all to Ahmet and Diva.

Ahmet and Diva seem to be "only in it for the money" while Moon and Dweezil seem to carry the spark of Frank's creativity....

Don't support the ZFT until Dweezil and Moon are equal partners. Go see Dweezil live, his band is awesome and worth every penny every night. Do the right thing Ahmet, make them equal partners and apologize to your siblings for not doing it sooner. I am a super fan, I used to buy everything the ZFT released and I would love to support it again, but not until you make things right with Dweezil and Moon, who cares what your mother wanted, think about what your father would want.

Does anyone know why Frank’s kids call him Frank? They don’t refer to him as dad. It seems impersonal. But I think there must be something behind it. Not judging them. Just a curiosity. It sounds like they really didn’t know him very well as he was always working. For that reason have they separated themselves from him as a father and call him by his first name?

Frank insisted on it. I forget why now, I've read his explanation of it in an interview, something about not having automatic superiority that some parents have over their kids throughout their lives. He wanted them to think for themselves.

What is interesting I once commented on Dweezil's page that when he called his father Frank, that Frank was no more personal to him than the rest of us. I don't know if that comment had any effect, but something did because in interviews now he refers to him as 'my dad'.
