AHS Krab Has Shown Impressive Performance On The Battlefield

The AHS Krab is a 155 mm NATO-compatible self-propelled tracked gun-howitzer designed in Poland by Centrum Produkcji Wojskowej Huta Stalowa Wola, by combining the South Korean K9 Thunder chassis with a British AS-90M Braveheart turret with 52-calibre gun and WB Electronics' "Topaz" artillery fire control system. The 2011 version used a Nexter Systems barrel and UPG chassis. The 2016 production batch utilized the K9 chassis and a Rheinmetall barrel. As of 2016 full-rate production of 120 Krabs for Polish Army has started with 16 guns completed and deliveries to be completed by 2024. As of 2019, Centrum Produkcji Wojskowej Huta Stalowa Wola started using barrels of their own manufacture in successive production batches.
In June, the Ukrainian government in Kyiv signed a $65 million contract with Poland for 72 Krab self-propelled howitzers, of which the first 18 have been “donated” and delivered and are taking their place along the embattled front. Formidable a weapon though it is, the Krab is unique in that it combines an international consortium of designs, integrated in one original, indigenously manufactured weapon.

The material does not mention the very modern, Polish networked, integrated combat management system "TOPAZ", which processes real-time data from the battlefield from counter batten radars, reconnaissance drones and forward observation positions. Provides 2x2 m accuracy per target at a distance of 30 km. Poland has highly developed competences in military electronics, so in this cannon all electronics is Polish: land navigation and topographic linkage system, odometer; "Topaz" fire control system (turret control computer, targeting computer and commander's ballistic computer), integrated internal and external communication system (VHF digital radio and personal radio for functional staff), driver and commander day and night observation devices with a Polish thermal imaging cameras, warning and self-shielding system, straight-firing sight, ballistic radar.

That's true. NOW! - I'm sure as hell no "expert" on artillery-systems but I know for a fact that when the Americans saw the "TOPAZ" they asked the Polish counterparts to show them how does it work (in the US!). The "TOPAZ" has been designed specifically to be able to "communicate" without any problems with its Western-counterparts - MAINLY - American softwares, and they are testing its "inter-operability" as we speak on American gun-ranges. From what I heard they've been stunned not just by the ease of use and the precision of data-processing, but with being able to work "in tandem" with any Western system and exchange informations with them.

@@skalusz yes, as well as muzzle velocity, wind speed etc. I would love to see a comparative shooting test vs other howitzer in terms of accuracy and reload speed. How does the krab reload? Fully automatic like a pzh 2000?

@@blackdification No, it's not fully automatic. But it has one advantage over PZH 2000. Reliability. All 7 armatohabics delivered to Ukraine by Germany are currently being repaired in Lithuania. They did not withstand excessive usage. As far as I know, the Ukrainians highly praise all dozens of crabs fighting in Ukraine for accuracy, reliability and ergonomics.

W tym filmie zapomniano wspomnieć o bardzo ważnym elemencie tej haubicy jakim jest system TOPAZ. Dzięki niemu Krab to obecnie najlepsza haubica na świecie, wyprzedzająca nawet tak świetne konstrukcje jak niemiecka PzH 2000 czy koreańska K9. Oczywiście działa takie jak najnowsza wersja M109A7 z USA, czy rosyjska 2S19 Msta-S, nie mogą się równać z Krabem.

All interior turret parts is design by polish engineers. Main reason is, they don't have new or replaced parts for this turret from non existing producer.

No more krabs... Poland decided to buy 648 of k9 artillery from Korea. 48 artillery from Korea and 600 of k9 will be assembled in Poland. 1000 of k2 tanks and 68 of FA50 fighter from Korea.

K9a2 is fully automatic reloading system, thats why poland decided to buy 48 from Korea and 600 license produce in Poland - licence fee to Korean company. Of course, when poland makes krab, usd 1.5 -2 m as license fee to Korea vompany.
