Beautiful restauration! The cabinet is from a period called „Gründerzeit“ and was most likely the top part of a bigger buffet cabinet. Love the piece of newspaper you showed… it‘s written in old German and informed of the marriage of the potter Reinhold and Maria on the October 3rd, 1875. Thank you for sharing.

@Nicole Stöber, is Old German in that particular print type/font difficult to read, for a native German speaker? Because it sure is to me😅. Eventhough I have no problem what so ever reading German in "normal" (modern) print. With this particular type setting many letters seem to resemble a ß / Eszett, to me.✌🏻

I like that you kept as much of the original wood as you could. That’s my biggest pet peeve when restoring old items, when someone replaces all the original parts with new parts then it loses its nostalgia. Good job! 👍🏽👍🏽

There are some excellent restorers on KZbin, but I think this guy is the best I've seen. He retains the integrity of the pieces with his knowledge, patience, thoroughness and top skills, one of which is his superb wood carving ability. He also doesn't rely on pointless pets (as nice as pets are) hanging around to gain the gullible pet-loving viewers' empathy and 'likes'. I've just 'subscribed'.

The furniture makers in 'the old times' had most of the tools you see in this video. Just not the electric ones. They had power tools that were either water, steam, or engine driven. A modern craftsman would be very challenged to keep up with an 1875 craftsman. They had all the chisels, saws, and a myriad of hand planes that performed very well.

@@georgepretnick4460 I don't think most woodworkers would have access to such things prior to the 20th century. I believe there was large industrial equipment powered by such things, but I figure it's more milling and other heavy duty trades, not fine woodworking. Do you have any sources you could link talking about it? I've been wanting to learn more about woodworking history and have had a hard time finding good places to research from.
@georgepretnick4460
@georgepretnick4460 2 жыл бұрын
@@amandaduckett3093 yes, there was industrial level furniture, door, window and flooring manufacturing back to Roubo. Most wood working powered machinery was developed in the 19th century, it just wasn't electric powered. Most of them were powered by a belt drive coming off of a central drive shaft. That drive shaft was powered by, you guessed it, a large industrial engine, a steam engine, a water wheel, or even animal powered.

It's sad to see them rot away because they aren't trendy anymore, and most people won't bother with them. So it makes me really satisfied when I see one get restored to its original glory. Especially if the person doing it tries to stay true to the original piece instead of just making it into osmething else. Hello from NYC! I absolutely loved this restoration! And was blown away when you showed the year on the newspaper inside the cabinet! You took so much care in making sure to restore this cabinet, and it came out better than before! Bravo!! Thanks for an amazing video and God bless you!🙏🏼💖

Another stunningly beautiful piece! But frankly, when I first saw it, I thought it was only good for stove wood. Now I love the way this piece turned out. So impressive!

I am totally awestruck. I absolutely love going thru all your restorations. You have absolutely awesome skills. I learned from a master clock maker and carver before he passed for over 15 years. I absolutely love hand detailing. You did a incredible job. It came out so beautiful. 😊

Great save on a piece that would have been considered too far gone by many. Good for another 100 years. You show more talents than I thought you had. Shouldn't really be surprised though.

I am a silent watcher but I have to admit your work is amazing! Thank you for repair/renew/restoration of these beautiful items!! ❤️Not many left with the skills to do work work restoration. Also have to give the owner(s) of the project(s) kudos for their desire to keep the items alive rather that replace with a new item from Target (or IKEA….)

This is beautiful. I would love to have something like that. You have every piece of equipment needed to do all this and I find it amazing. I watch a lot of these restoration videos and never before have I seen one quite like yours. I have always wanted to be able to refurbish old things and have a little shop for resale, but that never happened, so I watch people like you do these beautiful things.
