Genius, from start to finish. This wasn't a restoration, it was a resurrection. Many people would have given up after only a few hours--this trunk was in very rough shape. Loved seeing you work with the canvas fabric, the color matching, and the local company replicating the original fabric liner. Of course it was worth it--we got to see you work another miracle on an antique piece! Beautiful job!

Baumgartner would be proud of that canvas repair. And the retouching paint is superb.

This work conserved the trunk. As others said, its conservation is the result of the work of a genius. .... and no spiders were harmed in conserving this trunk.

You ask "Was it worth it?" Well, if you charge 60 euro/hr, then 6000 euro. Amazing patience, and attention to detail. (And lets not forget the kindness to spiders).👌👍👏🙏

Incredible!! I wonder: Do you ever get in the middle of a project and think, What was I thinking when I said I’d do this??!! 😄 There’s no apparent end to your extraordinary talent. It’s a joy to watch you work your magic.

That was one of the most interesting and fun projects I've seen you work on. Working with the canvas to extend the damaged and missing leather. Fascinated with the technology to print the interior fabric. This was a real joy. Nice work!

What an amazing transformation- it is beautiful. As a child in the 1960's I made glue from water and flour on the stove. I can't believe that nearly 60 years later museum conservators are using it to conserve old pieces.

I must say that you have a lot of courage to take on a job like this, I wouldn't have the courage myself! The only destination I would send this trunk to would be to the bonfire! When you used starch glue I immediately recognized it, I made this mixture of starch glue with PVA glue a lot and I still use it for restoring and recovering books, it's not that old but I use it to glue rigid covers with synthetic leather. Greetings from Brazil!
@RamonaAnneСағат бұрын
Awesome. You can make a jig to fit anything, can't you? And you have tools for everything. But what is most amazing is how you proceed with restoration - saving everything that can be saved. I wasn't expecting you to re-use the original canvas. Amazing.
