Reminds me of digging the imu growing up in Hawaiʻi with my grandpa and my dad, my uncles and cousins for family luʻau. Brought back good memories! Mahalo!

It is awesome to see the older and wiser ones teaching the young ones the traditional Samoan way of things.... and more. I haven’t seen Tommy Ahwong for a long time! (I think that’s his name) he still the same great guy he is! A good teacher! A wonderful and blessed family. Thank you for sharing. Manaia Le umu. Malo lava 👍🏼

I don't know where this is ? ..... However my grandmother was born in Papua New Guinea, in the very early 1900's ... Her father was a Malaysian .. His name was Zyarap AhWong and though he was of Chinese heritage, he was a Muslim .. Came by ship as a crew member and remained in Papua New Guinea .. Wonder if they were related ?

I love the part where the old man in the background saying, "this is the new way to extract coconut milk, the old way was one person did it, one man job (with the husk of the coconut), and now it takes about 3,4,5 guys to do it, made me laugh, these guys are hopeless, still funny to watch, I use to do this every Sunday as a teen, back home in Western Samoa, before they dropped the Western.

Not sure, apparently it's either the Japanese war with China or my grandmother was an outcast that caused her to not know anything about her family. All we know is that she had her foot-bind and came from a good family.
@malia53657 жыл бұрын
Michael Pauli Chen a lot of Samoans have Chinese ancestors. I'm half Tongan and I'm married to a Samoan and his grandfather was half Chinese.

@ghost busta Actually. The Chinese were brought to the Island of Samoa during the late 1800's when the Germans occupied the Island. The Chinese worked as cheap laborer under extreme conditions at the hand's of the Germans. Long story short. Some of the Chinese worker stayed and married Samoan women. Therefore, inheriting Samoan cultural, Chieftain titles, land and the "Fa a Samoa" The Samoa Way of Life. Keep in mind, the Chinese are now integrated with the Samoan blood giving them full rights to the Fa a Samoa ways. I hope that helped some of your readers. Thank you.
