In the creative tech world, we’ve seen some pretty cool stuff come out. If OpenAI’s Sora is as good as they say, it’s going to shake things up big time for movie makers and the like. But, we still need real people to make it all click. Now, if GPT-5 is just the same old with no fancy new automation tricks, I bet some investors will start losing interest. And about all those AI gizmos popping up? Seems like most are just a flash in the pan. I share most of the sentiments of Uncle Stef’s conclusions. If AI were to fully assume a developer’s responsibilities, managing every facet and intricacy of the programming process, then indeed, every computer-centric profession might be taken over by machines. Yet, it seems that day is not as close as some had anticipated. So here I am, typing this text in a cab. Over 10 years ago, many smart people said this job wouldn't exist in 2024, but guess what! They're still rolling.

After spending a couple of days out in the desert, I can say that I am envious of the lizard brain. They just hang out in the sun most of the time (until something bigger comes along and eats them.) That’s why they are so quick! Also I have changed my mind about AI and I think it’s going to take away like 90% of the software engineering jobs, it’s just a matter of how long that will take. Only test engineers will be left. They’ve been trying to automate testers out of existence for 30+ years and have yet to be totally successful. The AI hype cycle is going at hyperspeed right now. I already see a lot of driverless cars here in the southwest aka taxis for the brave. I used to be against such things, but drivers are horrible so I think it’s a net positive development.

People like Gary Marcus and other AI researchers have said this for years but the hype machine cant be stopped. CEOs like Elon and Sam Altman make billions off this hype and retail investors that dont know any better.
