Ai Myth and Reality

Nigel is one of the world’s leading scholars in the field of artificial intelligence. Beyond exploring A.I. from a technological standpoint, his work also considers some of the broader, philosophical questions posed by the digital age; his seminal text, The Spy in the Coffee Machine, examines how advancements in tech could corrode trust and privacy. Along with long-time friend and colleague, Tim Burners Lee, he co-founded the Open Data Institute, an incredible platform incubating new businesses by sharing and democratising knowledge. Thank god someone finally said it. I'm not putting down Elon and Sam Harris's worries about AI, but for the love of god, this whole nonsense about AI taking over and us building our future rulers is getting ridiculous. We have just as much knowledge about how our brains work as a chimp has about how a car works. Sure, you can train the chimp to drive a bit, but that doesn't mean he'll build one any time soon.
