Brakes on when attaching and detaching the hoops, brakes off when lifting and downing

You are going against manufacturers instructions. Brakes should not be locked when actually using hoists. The customers weight is similar to a pendulum motion while in the hoist. The hoist will self correct and move accordingly. If you have the brakes on, the hoist can no longer move forward or backwards, which means the movement will go to the sides instead. This is how hoists tip over.

It's still a hoist, brakes are not to be locked when carrying a load. Increases greatly the chance of tiping

True, breaks should not be on. It brings accident to staff and residents

The video demonstrates how to safely lift a person from the floor and in this instance, it is safe to lock the breaks as per the Aspire A205 lifter user manual (please refer to page 16 www.aidacare.com.au/globalassets/knowledge/resources-page/aspire/a205_lifter_user_manual.pdf ). For any other transfers using a full hoist e.g. bed to chair, chair to chair, the breaks should not be used unless lifting on a slope. It is important to note that we always recommend reading the user manual for safe use.
