Love seeing the breakdown on Aidan. Watched him a ton at Purdue. He throws a really nice ball and his pre-snap reads are really good. If he gets fooled pre-snap, though, it gets ugly. The ball's probably going to his pre-snap read no matter what the defense is doing, and he really lacks the mobility to do much against pressure (-274 career rushing yards lol) . Still, being right pre-snap and throwing a good, accurate ball can get you a long way in this world. Just ask Chase Daniel. Glad to see him get a shot in the league.

As a Raiders fan I hope McDaniels is able to get him to improve his post snap reads. Mobility is less of a concern as long as he can move well within the pocket

Nice to see the footage. Looks like 49ers never adapted. Oconnel didnt have to make many reads so would like to see him perform when against a more complex defense. Regardless, this was impressive. Oconnel aced his first test

O'Connell's footwork is what impressed me the most, not at all like Derrick Carr, no hesitation in his set up, throws with confidence, not at all like DC. He keeps a cool head in the pocket, not at all like DC.

The difference between Jordan Love’s throw to Watson and Aiden O’Connel’s is Aiden’s ball fell on the hashes. He put it only where his WR could get it. Love’s ball landed just inside which gave the safety just enough to knock it down

Look, I went to Purdue and watched him throw plenty. Saw several errant passes that didn't need to happen. Idk how to explain it, but he always finds a way to somehow play down to the level of competition he's facing. He's got a ton of character and heart for playing through his brother's death. I wish him the best in the league, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Last season vs lowly Indiana State: 17-19, 4 TDs, 0 INTs Vs Syracuse: 424 yds, 3 TD, 1 INT Vs Nebraska: 391, 4 TD, 1 INT Vs Northwestern & Indiana: 4 total TDs, 0 INTs on few throws Seemed to handle the worst teams just fine last year.

All of those plays he had minimal pressure and threw it to his first read. I would say that's more Josh McDaniels' playcalling than Aiden O'Connell. I think he's a perfect fit but I'd need to see him deal with some adversity on a consistent basis.

I must admit that I wasn't happy to see Carr leave the Raiders, he needed a much stronger Defense than he got & he gave it his all - respect Derek!!!! However, I was very impressed with the D in this game and I must admit that Aiden was excellent! Great first game - he was calm, composed and deadly accurate! Loved that the D gave him space in the pocket, something that the Raiders have been lacking. Thank you from the UK, I can't believe I haven't seen this channel before!! 🤯😢😭 I'm gonna be busy watching past posts for a while.... I love playing the game at 1/4 speed so I can see the plays - OMG, it's such an awesome game!!!

@@DreamBird1, starter doesn't mean superstar. He could be a solid starter for a team that needs a stop-gap. If he works on his arm and gets it to be really strong AND accurate, that will really help. I'm not sure he will ever be mobile enough to be a true star at the position...and he has lacked the ability to improvise and read the defense on the fly...yet. Plus, his age is going to limit his longevity to learn and improve.

Aidan was a stud at Purdue. Unfortunately until the latter part of 2021, he was seen as a guy starting out of necessity rather than his own ability since he started his career as a walk-on. His games against Michigan State, Ohio State, and Tennessee in 2021 were some of his best games at Purdue if any of y'all are interested in watching more tape.

I loved Aiden at Purdue and he looked and felt like he could be a goood pro...my biggest issue was just I thought he threw balls that did not get picked in college that wouldve got picked in pros...but I hope he develops watching him run undercenter playaction is good too and he took to it quickly doing virtually none of that at Purdue.

I think O’Connell has a little Drew Brees in him. He is very accurate and has a quick delivery. I loved his 2021 Purdue tape. He reminded me of a pro quarterback even then.
