Should F1 Dump Barcelona for Aragon? Can F1 Handle: Motorland Aragon

Actually a fun, enjoyable circuit. Has a couple of overtaking opportunities but dirty air might be a pain in sector one. Still liked driving there- Very reminiscent of Turkey and Portimao to to an extent.

Low poly count on the elevation changes. That's the issue. Double or triple up on the wireframe in those sections and you'll be good. Granted, you have to be able to edit the mesh. I know what needs to be done, but don't have the software to make it happen.

The issue is most of these tracks are designed for bikes but this track seems a lot better than Barcelona and the street circuits in Miami and Saudi Arabia

We can't really say anything yet about the last 2 because they haven't been build yet. Same went for Korea back in the day. The early sketches looked and felt crap but the actual finished track was great.

I mean Mugello is a MotoGP track mostly and F1 was amazing there

As a fan of MotoGP this is my favourite Spanish track. Could see it working out in F1, but with the MotoGP final corner and not the tight chicane

I hate Aragon on MotoGP. Only track worse to me is Chang. Valencia and Jerez are a lot better suited to my driving style. But that's just me i guess.

It could work if they use the hairpin at the end of the straight. That makes the straight longer and also is a heavy breaking zone that will make for a better overtaking opportunity.

It is one of the better tilke circuits. Like you said it has parts of Istanbul. Plus a great dry stone wall. Just a shame its in the middle of nowhere

This might be the best currently-existing Spanish track for F1... ...if it wasn't in the middle of nowhere. The nearest major city, Zaragoza, is over 100km away. Which is unfortunate.

I know that cockpit cam is probably your preferred POV but would maybe the outlap be in T-Cam for a better view of the track before then the flying lap being in cockpit cam?

Doing that and making it all one seamless take is a pain in the arse. But I put a T cam lap at the end.

Yeah i agree a tcam lap would be nice anywhere in the video just to give more of a vibe of what we see for actual onboard cams. Still, great video.

We used to have a urban track there, in the nearby town of Alcañiz, where there were some touring car races up until the nineties. It's a good track, and the reversed corkscrew is a nice addition. For F1, I agree that it's main issue is how to get there. There are no highways leading to it, and the nearest airport is at least a 90 minute drive by car.

I know the track well from World Superbikes. They had to put the bus stop in on the long straight because some bikes were going ridiculously fast. They still hit 200+ mph IIRC. It's really wide, has good overtaking opportunities, and it would be a great change from Bore-celona. Very technical in parts. The bit from the big wall down is nicknamed the corkscrew, because on a bike it's like Laguna Seca. Apparently it's easy enough to get there, because they get full houses for the bikes (no big Spanish names in WSB these days either - only in the lower classes).

You should try the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit. Other MotoGP Circuits could be really good for F1: Losail and Motegi come to mind

Maybe they could build a temporary street circuit using one of the many abandoned airports in spain that were built before the '08 economic crash? It would be cool to see F1 have a circuit similar to the old Burke Lakefront Airport circuit that Indycar used to race in Cleveland Ohio on back in the 80's '90's and 00's where the cars could really open up on a six thousand foot main straight and maybe have a couple of long back straights for DRS zones.

There's only one abandoned airport that I know of, and it has already been used for testing al sorts of machinery, but it would be very hard to make a circuit of it, and I think it's finally being used for planes...

I think they could use the first "Bus Stop" on the back straight. Acceleration isn't a problem for actual cars, and the rest of the straight until the hairpin could be a nice DRS zone.

Well the track is nice ride in R3E :) The problem in real world might be that it is in quite remote area, so the question is if there is enough appropriate accomodation for F1 needs in reasonable distance.

this track historically is a staple in the MotoGP calendar, WTCR also raced here last year in the finale, that was quite nice. I would like it more if they used the MotoGP last corner and not that awkwardly extra tight hairpin at the end of the lap. I'm gonna go against the hive and say Barcelona deserves to be on the calendar, it's a very decent track, I always enjoy driving it and it offers great racing opportunities, the F1 cornering speeds just got too high for it. But that's the case with many circuits and sadly so many fans are now calling to get rid of those and bring in more and more "1.5km-curved-DRS-straight into tight hairpin" tracks. I think there should be variety in the tracks and if one or two don't bring the best racing, so be it. If you want to watch a series with tracks which promote constant overtaking, then F1 isn't right for you, maybe try NASCAR.

It's just bad that literally all of the new tracks are designed by him. He's good but nobody is that good to pull of 10 top tier tracks in a row. You ask me what I want? I want variety! Keep Barcelona, keep Monaco, don't build another stadium parking lot track. I think we are allowed to criticise at least some Tilke tracks without becoming a circlejerk, don't ya think?

I've always hated La Circuit De Barcelona (that was even before the nonsense chicane before the last corner), but TBH, I'm not really a fan of any current Spanish tracks. The best ones don't meet the safety standards, and the tracks that do, are all designed for Bike racing. Aragon is therefore the best of the bunch, however, and I know its an unpopular opinion, I actually really liked the Valencia street track.

We almost had a third race in my home country in the 2009 formula one season to replace the french grand prix at magny cours and it will be held at motorland aragon but bernie ecclestone who is the owner of formula one sadly said no because of the housing crisis happening at the time!!!

Honestly, I'd rather they stayed at Algarve and dropped Barcelona permanently. Then used the freed-up space for bringing back Germany or South Africa. There has never really been an interesting race at Barcelona aside from 1991, and 2016 was only interesting because of Mercedes crashing. The actual racing is so stale, and the track has no redeeming qualities since the last corner was altered in 2007 to try and improve overtaking (which it didn't)

Jerez is actually well-placed, it's on the outskirts of Jerez (a 200k+ inhabitants city, and the city the circuit is named after) and 30 km away from Cádiz, and only 15 km away from the closest airport

I say just screw it and use neither bus stop. I wanna see absurd speeds out of that long, fast corner and onto that long, downhill straight. There could be slipstream battles galore and an absurd overtaking opportunity at the hairpin. Yeah, I know the FIA doesn't like long straights, but that shouldn't stop the F1 folks, IMO. The FIA could just tell the FIA to stuff it, because it's the FIA that makes the rules around here. To quote _Aladdin,_ "Well am I Sultan, or am I Sultan?"

Aragon is meant to be awful logistically to travel to and race at because of it essentially being in the middle of a Spanish desert-esque piece of land, meaning that supplies there are limited. So, it wouldn’t really work for f1 on that stand point

In MotoGP Aragon is a terrible track to me. I regret every lap i have done in MotoGP 20. Every bit of flow that's about to come is destroyed by these weird 90 degree corners and these endless sweeping corners really test your patience. Oddly enough the mickey mouse section is on of the most fun corners on a bike. The track overall looks OK in the F1 car though.

Some very nice corners and elevation changes, just too bad the scenery is a bit dull. And the bike version of the last corner without the hairpin would be amazing - if lack of overtaking wasn't a concern.
