This year was also the first time since 1983 that the drivers champion's car wasn't either 1st or 2nd in the constructors. Last time was Nelson Piquet winning the driver's in the 3rd place Brabham in 1983.
@TheSt10923 сағат бұрын
Max Versttappen and Piquet Sr are also the only two drivers in history two win two WDCs in seasons where their team were not constructors championship champions . For Piquet this occurred with his first two WDCs with Brabham in 1981 ( Williams won the WCC) and 1983 (WCC won by Ferrari) . For Max this occurred in 2021 (Mercedes won the WCC ) and then 2024 ( McLaren wins the WCC)

For me, the incident between Verstappen and Piastri annoys me because of the Verstappen fans criticising Piastri for not just lying back and taking it when Verstappen divebombed him. All the complaints about “British bias” just come off as hypocritical knowing that Max Verstappen could ram a flaming bin lorry into a children’s hospital while blind drunk, and his fans would still blame the hospital.

Anyone who was paying attention should have seen this coming. 2023 McLaren went from back of the grid to a front-runner. Their development pipeline was working, with more coming online. I said if they start 2024 midfield they'll be an easy second place WCC. That assumed Red Bull wouldn't stumble. Pair the two, easy WCC. I don't know how they weren't prepared for this. If it was me, I'd have been prepped for a possible #1 this whole season. "You lose 100% of the shots you don't take" and McLaren weren't prepared to take the shot.

I agree with you, normally the last season of a current regulation the teams just tweak their cars. Which makes for great seasons ( apart from the second half of ‘13 when they changed the tyres). I think it had the potential to be like 2008 when not one car is the clear best so it swings and roundabouts with each track. I just hope that Lando capitalises on this opportunity and gets more firm then he did this year. Ferrari will be interesting too. I expect Charles to start off with the advantage. But I think it’ll pan out with Charles being the better qualifier and Lewis having the better race pace. I don’t think they’ll put a championship challenge on but I do expect them to win races.

I was 12. Something something Mika, something something my McLaren. So, back to Ferrari v McLaren. Well, retro is all the rage these days. I couldn't wait, so on those flyaway occasions, I would fire up Teletext for the result and enjoyed guessing how that played out in my mind's eye before see how it actually played out in the repeat. I relived that with Canada this year, being on hols and having live text commentary on the Sky app, again trying to imagine each twist and turn. "If you no longer go for a gap..." is to me F1's equivalent of Godwin's Law. Call it Senna's Law. If you say it, you immediately lose the argument.
@henkormel56102 сағат бұрын
The quote "If you don't go for a gap that exists, you're no longer a racing driver" is from Senna indeed. The occasion was the championship interview with Murray Walker after the 1999 Japanese GP where he crashed with Prost at turn one. That crash gave him the championship. He was well aware he couldn't say it was on purpose due to he wasn't crowned yet on the gala. Senna gave the political correct answer so he coildn't be blamed for crashing on purpose. It would have cost him the championship if he had answered otherwise.

Excellent race, thoroughly enjoyed it. Think Max is favourite next year if the 25 Red Bull is decent. Piastri and Norris will share wins, Lewis and Leclerc will share wins. George may win the odd race, so it could be 1973 again, Emmo and Ronnie had the 72E , class of the field, but shared wins meant Jackie nipped in and took the championship.
