Alvarez's storyline was really one of the most tragic on the show. Three lines of men all in the same prison at the same time. Unbreakable and so realistic.

Isn't that crazy how something so little like that makes such a huge fucking difference!! I mean seriously I would go as far as to say those congos and trumpets literally made the show! Now I understand that may sound stupid since this amazing cast is what really made the show but just imagine it without those congs and trumps? It would absolutely not be the same! They couldn't have picked more perfect times to sound those instruments!! I wish they still made series and movies like they used to!

Barely knew my maternal grandfather, always away. He was USAF cryptology/intelligence/counterintelligence. I wasn't quite 30 years old by the time he passed. I know some but obviously not all of he did, likely never will know anything beyond the superficial surface. Both paternal grandparents had passed by the time I was less than 90 days from my 22nd birthday. Aside from my maternal grandmother, both my paternal grandparents were practically the only grandparents I ever knew. They practically helped raise my sister and I. At 84 and counting, my maternal grandmother is the only grandparent I have left. I'm 43 now. She became a grandparent about the same age I am now. I'm her first grandchild.

Unfortunately this is not a fantasy story at least the aspect of three generations of one family ending up in prison. Maybe not in the same prison. Breaking the cycle of crime and violence and incarceration is very difficult. The problem is that the stigma of being incarnated doesn’t exist in some communities. Housing a criminal costs $60,000 a year. Putting a kid through high school to a state college costs $21,000. But we need to replace our dying manufacturing sector, agriculture and retail stores with something. Why not housing black and Hispanic and poor white men? The criminal justice system is big business.
