There are a number of things contributing to the look. I’m a photographer and I can say there are absolutely moments just as, if not more beautiful. Sunset/sunrise and just the right amount of clouds will do a lot, but another big one is water. Notice how the ground is almost always wet in kimi no na ha. Filmmakers also spray down streets with water before filming to get the beautiful glossy reflections. There’s also just waiting for the right weather. Rainy days are some of the best days for photography, but a slightly cloudy sunset after a spring rain is like striking gold.
