Video of airmen from the 908th Expeditionary Air Refueling Squadron conducting an air refueling mission on Thanksgiving day in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. While airborne the crew cooked Thanksgiving dinner then performed refueling on F-18 Hornets and F-16 Fighting Falcons. To finish the day, they eat pumpkin pie and have a hot cup of coffee. Regular USAF food. My friend was in the Army and was stationed with the Air Force for a week and could not believe how good the food was, he said they even had steaks one day.

I spent 17 months in as a Helicopter Gunner in the 20th SOS MACV-SOG, Vietnam 70-72. That was 50 years ago but I miss the camaraderie, the highs and the adrenaline, BIG TIME. I get what you are stating.

What is the Mil Spec for the thickness of the Aluminum foil, used to protect the crew from the Carving Knife? It looked like standard 3 Mil Aluminum, but surely the Mil Spec demands Greater Thickness; maybe 4 Mil? Those tanker guys live on the edge, when it comes to protecting themselves from their Carving Knife, during a Thanksgiving, in-flight, dinner!

Fighter jets are cool but i love that joke of an F18 pilot comes along side a C130 and does a flip and a barrel roll, pulls some Gs and then levels off right along side the c130s wing. The pilot of the F18 asks what they thought of that. So the C130 pilot says " oh you think that's cool watch this" after 10 minutes of nothing the f18 pilot finally loses his patience and asks when he will do something. Shortly after the C130 pilot comes back on the radio and asks the jet what he thought of that. The annoyed F18 pilot asks what the hell he even did. To which he replied "I got up, went to the bathroom, stretched my legs, chatted to the crew and made a cup of coffee".

I believe the Navy uses drogue as that can be fitted to many aircraft, including some carrier based aircraft, which allowed aircraft like the Intruder to become carrier based aerial refuelers. It makes sense that the larger refueling planes could carry both.

Olaf Weinzer not really... on older planes you could trim the aircraft manually to compensate for the difference. On newer aircraft the onboard computer does the work for you. :)

Joshua Naidoo depends on the system, most of the time you just have to put in 2 clicks of trim to keep it level. the only problem is pulling hard because some flight systems don’t compensate for the asymmetrical load and can depart flight

+Jonathan Andrew 557 one is commonly used with the navy (basket) this is because it is smaller and can be fitted to fighters witch can refuel (commonly used on aircraft caryers) and the boom is used most other places.

Also, the air force operates a lot of large aircraft like bombers. For those sorts of planes, the solid boom is better because it allows greater fuel flow. And so that the tanker doesn't have to swap booms all the time, all the other Air Force aircraft use the solid boom as well. The Navy/Marines use the basket because they mostly operate smaller aircraft, and the basket is easier for those.
