For real?! My barber said "I will fk your wife everyday so she won't be lonely when you are fighting in Afghanistan." I immediately stood up, turned around and shook his hand and thanked him. I also said: "She likes to be spanked during doggy style". When I came home from Afghanistan, my wife had trouble sitting down from being spanked so much. And I had 3 kids thanks to him. As a kid I never understood why drill instructors behave the way they do. But I understand. They want to get the very best out of everyone and a recruit failing is a reflection of their leadership. Massive respect to them and to the recruits that pour their heart into their training and service.
@flanagamer Жыл бұрын
Because they gotta get everybody on the same page, physically and mentally in a very short time period. Gotta remember, a lot of kids join right after high school and they’re used to their mommies cleaning up after them and doing everything for them like cooking and laundry. They have little discipline. Not everybody, but a large portion of Recruits are like that, and have never had to face adversity or even yelling before.
@anapple3445 Жыл бұрын
It's to teach them to perform under pressure. No matter how much they scream you still have to do what you were assigned to do, it teaches discipline.
@CLaw-tb5gg Жыл бұрын
I always figured it was to desensitise people. If you have someone literally screaming in your face all day long, pretty soon it's going to feel normal and not that stressful, and given someone screaming in your face is usually pretty stressful, it probably makes people generally calmer in the long term and better able to handle combat stress.

I consider my first day at Parris Island to be unique among my fellow Marines. I had already served 4 years in the Air Force including a year in Vietnam. I had gotten out and finished up my two years of inactive reserve time. On December 7, 1971, 30 years to the day after Pearl Harbor, I arrived at Parris Island to begin boot camp. At 0430 that morning we sat in the bus waiting for the show to begin. A Master Sergeant got on the bus and gave us a short speech, in a normal voice, and told us he was so proud of us for joining the Marines on Pearl Harbor Day. He told us to pick up our stuff and very quietly go inside the building and have a seat next to the wall all around the room. And so our day began. The drill instructors picked us up later in the day and from that point on it was normal boot camp. I never lost that unique memory. I became a weather forecaster in the next few years, briefing pilots on their missions. I went back to Vietnam for the second time. I also spent three years stationed in Hawaii. The first thing I did after settling in was visit the Arizona Memorial. I learned of the Punch Bowl Crater Cemetery and spent an entire day walking around reading the thousands of names of my fellow servicemen and women killed in the Pacific during WWII. To this day I share a special reverence for Pearl Harbor Day with all Americans. I'll add that I spent two years in Japan during my career. My thoughts about the Japanese people has completely changed since my boyhood. They are beautiful people and I enjoyed every minute I spent in Japan.

They'll never capture the true magic of boot camp. I remember we had a dude from New Orleans with the thickest creole accent you can imagine... he was an absolute machine, and crushed everything both mental and physical, but he absolutely refused to sound off. They would punish him with push-ups, for example, and he was just fine with that. It evolved into a paradox of acceptance from the DIs and the other recruits. We all just kind of pretended that he would sound off. It became the subject of jokes between the DIs. I'm not sure he would've gotten away with it except for his ability to rock a 300 PFT while barely breaking a sweat. But it pretty much made boot camp a laugh for the whole time.

These DI's are finishing up their times as DI's via doing receiving week stuff. So they've seen almost every kind of recruit and know how to just scare recruits just enough

I'm blind in one eye so I could never enlist, but vids like these always remind me of my uncle. He was a Navy LCDR for INSURV. Served with distinction; disappeared for months on end on submarine assignments. Came home to VA Beach on leave in '99 and dropped dead from an aneurysm at 43. Such a random way to die. RIP, Uncle Pete 🫡

4:18 Omg that makes me laugh every time. He's just like "What is this?" Like seriously recruit what is it? The way he says it. I don't understand why it makes me laugh.

Its always the little things that DI’s do that are funny. One night I was on Firewatch, forgot to report my post ( I was silly recruit, so go figure at the time ), and literally he just yells “ OH F*CK NO ! “ and runs towards me like bat out of hell. Then another time we got candy in our mail call, and he just yells it again, and I start laughing. I still laugh to this day.
