Sailor Moon DVD Sets and Future Releases

Here I show you most of the official Sailor Moon DVD sets and bootlegs available. If you want to know about the new sets coming out from Viz and what I think you should collect skip to the end.

I had forgotten Pioneer released S and SuperS in thin pack box sets. Thin packs were popular back then. I know they also boxed the movies. I think they called it the Dream Set. One thing to note about the first releases from Pioneer vs the box sets and Geneon Signature Series (after Pioneer changed their name to Geneon) is that the original, separately released volumes had foil stamping. S and SuperS volumes also had reversible covers. As Viz releases their Blu-rays, I've been doing videos to show the difference in packaging and disc art of old vs new. I don't have the DIC dubs though as I don't really care for DIC's Sailor Moon cartoon. Used to have them because that's all we could get, but once the ADV sub sets came out, I gave them away to a coworker. **If anyone plans to collect the VHS, be aware that ADV made a confusing choice for the final VHS volume's art. The art used is from the group shot at the end of the Sailor Moon S opening. This same art was used by Pioneer for the uncut, subtitled VHS for the uncut Sailor Moon S movie.

I really need to get the thin packs of S and SuperS because when I was starting collecting anime like around 2008 I bought like the VHS/DVD of S and SuperS without knowing that there is a complete series thin packs for them.

Nice DVD pickups Sailor Tortilla!!!!! I'm D-Man 85 and I love anime, animated movies, cartoons, TV shows etc. I'm a huge fan of Sailor Moon. Do you have a favorite Sailor Moon episode or Sailor Scout? Those 3 Sailor Moon animated movies look great. R, S, and Super S. Where did you find these Sailor Moon DVDs?

Hey there - great collection! I'm looking for the DVDs of the seasons or episodes that were aired in the US back in the 90s that was Americanized (don't believe they were dubbed; they used their American names i.e. Serena not Usagi). These might be the ones you show on VHS or be on individual DVD sets but want to make sure before buying. Thank you!!

WOW! You have quite the collection, thanks for showin' it!! Thanks for the info as well! I'm an anime lover and totally should have seen Sailor Moon by now... however due at first to my long-held misconception of it as a more simplistic children's show thanks to the old dubbed and edited version, and then the high cost of the half-season sets... I have still never seen it! I'm now determined to find the best way to watch it for a reasonable cost because I just watched and LOVED another series by the/one of the same directors, Revolutionary Girl Utena! I'm sure you are familiar with that onre, but if somehow you've never watched it you should. Anyway I would greatly appreciate your opinion on 1.Is the New dub worth watching? I admit it... generally speaking, if the dub isn't like straight up embarrassing and it's true to the original dialogue I would rather watch dubs because although I read fast I would rather hear the dialogue so I can really get into the visuals as much as possible, but if a dub is just a betrayal of the story then I of course want to watch it in Japanese. 2. If the new dub stinks this is irrelevant, but is there a Malaysian release of the new dub that isn't too compressed and looks pretty good like that 200 episode one I think you showed? 3. Any advice/warnings to empart as I quest to see all of Sailor Moon for the first time such as web sites with recommended viewing order or hard to find episodes or mini's or movies to keep an eye out for. If you've covered any of these in other videos just tell me which one. Thanks for the vid and your reply if you have a chance! :D

you can watch it subbed for free on hulu/neon alley, as well as the first season dubbed. you can also pick up the half seasons for $25 each and Walmart and target.

+Jake JakeJake Hey there, Utena is one of my favorite shows ever (I have a figure review up somewhere). You should be able to find Sailor Moon Subbed on Hulu (if not, like the other commenter said, you can now find the first two seasons at Walmart). I personally don't recommend the new dub, and this isn't a new thing for me. I got into subs very early on and this was one of those shows where they did it right the first time in Japanese.

Where can you get the original English dub by DIC that was on Cartoon Network? Can you buy it online? Or is that something you have to hunt for? So far no luck I only can find a new dubbed version

You have to hunt it down. EBay and amazon are your best bets at this point. You can call around at your local pawn shops, thrift stores, swap meet, flea market, etc. They are pricy and used (they've been out of print for over a decade and will not be re-released.) Do research first so you don't end up with bootlegs. If it claims to be region less, a boxed set, have the japanese, it's a bootleg.

The Dic Version has not, and probably will not be released on Bluray.

Rick Ohm The Malasian bootleg has english subtitles and S and SuperS have english audio tracks too, R might as well but I can't recall, I just know for a fact that Classic and Stars is japanese only. I own the bootleg myself, a friend bought it thinking it was official merchandise as a gift. This bootleg also has the three movies both in english and japanese.

They are either Region 1 or Region Free. I got mine off of eBay. Search for "chile Sailor Moon stars" or something like that.

Aije Tortilla is the opening theme song that plays in ep 200 when usagi fights galaxia dubbed in eng or is it in japanese? oh and how many discs is the chilean set?

There is no english language track on this version, only an english subtitle track. There are 9 volumes.
